Elon Musk leaves people divided as he debuts robot who can fold clothes

The internet has been left divided by a Tesla Robot that can fold clothes.

Elon Musk certainly knows how to get people talking doesn't he?

Whether that be all the changes he has made to Twitter (I mean X) since he took charge, or a conversation he had with the UK prime minister Rishi Sunak surrounding the advancements in AI.

And now, Musk has divided the internet once again after debuting the new line of Tesla robots.

But what are the idea of the robots you ask? Well, to perform various tasks and interact with humans. Watch it in action below:

Musk unveiled the company's latest robot, Optimus Gen 2 - which, according to Fox News, is said to be lighter, faster and smoother.

According to the company, the ambition for these robots is to create 'general purpose, bi-pedal, autonomous humanoid robot capable of performing unsafe, repetitive or boring tasks'.

Standing at five-feet 11 inches tall and weighing 121 lbs, 22 lbs, the new robot can assist humans in various areas - including manufacturing, construction, healthcare and entertainment.

And thanks to 35 degrees of freedom, the robot can move its joints in various directions and angles, subsequently allowing it to have a more human-like appearance and movement.

The robot is rather impressive.

Making them look even more human-like is the fact they are equipped with new hands, feet, neck and body.

The hands, which have 11 degrees of freedom, also have tactile sensors and faster actuators - allowing for better precision compared to its predecessor.

All the more to neatly fold clothes it seems.

Musk took to X (formerly Twitter) on Monday (January 15) to publish a video of the robot in action folding some clothes.

I think a lot of us find the mundane task a little tedious, so having a robot doing it for us seems ideal, right?

Well, the internet has very much been left divided by the Tesla robot in action.

Look at him go.

One person wrote: "This is fantastic!!! This is not perfect, but way better than I thought was possible already today!

"And what’s more interesting…. There are six Optimus just in this video, and I’m sure there are way more out of picture!

"The future is coming and it’s coming fast!"

"Is he available to come do my laundry lol?" a second added.

However, some had differing views, with a third person writing: "Genuinely terrifying. Why are you building these?"

And another said they were 'not as worried about Terminator' as they once were because of how 'slow' the robot was.

Musk also added in the comments: "Important note: Optimus cannot yet do this autonomously, but certainly will be able to do this fully autonomously and in an arbitrary environment (won’t require a fixed table with box that has only one shirt)."

UNILAD has reached out to Tesla for comment.
