Avril Lavigne has called off her engagement to real-life 'Sk8er Boi' Mod Sun.
Fans were delighted last March when Lavigne announced that she would be marrying musician Mod Sun - real name Derek Smith - sharing photos of him down on one knee in Paris.
The news was a joyous exampling of life imitating art, for while Mod Sun isn't actually a pro skater, he's definitely close enough to fit the brief, having previously explained he 'used to skate every day as a kid' but grew out of the habit after his 'music started to take off'.

He also shared a video of himself in 2019 getting back into the sport, explaining he had been filling his time with 'things [he's] loved all [his] life'.
You're undoubtedly familiar with Lavigne's biggest hit 'Sk8er Boi', but in case you're not, the 2002 track is essentially about a love story between a girl who does ballet and the titular sk8er boi.
But now it seems the 38-year-old has said 'seeya later boy' to her sk8er boi, with her reps confirming the break up to Page Six.

Oddly, the separation appeared to be news to Mod Sun.
His reps told the publication: "They were together and engaged as of three days ago when he left for tour so if anything has changed that’s news to him."
The rep added that his current tour would continue.
"The show will happen tonight and tomorrow and for the rest of the tour," they said.
The couple started dating after working together on Mod Sun's track 'Flames'.

The rapper later indicated the seriousness of the relationship by having Lavigne's name tattooed on his neck.
They got engaged in March 2022, around a year after meeting, and now it seems they've parted ways about a year on from the proposal.
Mod Sun also took to Instagram to share pictures from the engagement, saying in the caption he knew Lavigne was 'the one' from the 'day [they] met'.
"Together forever til our days are done. I had a dream where I proposed in paris. I pulled out a ring + asked you to wear it... I grabbed your hand + took one last breath… I said 'will you marry me?' + she said 'yes'," he wrote.

Lavigne previously told People she and Mod Sun had a 'very strong unstoppable connection', adding: "He made every day better. It was like I had known him forever. As time went on, things kept getting better, and it felt incredibly natural."
