Fans have been left disappointed after Blake Lively announced that she wouldn’t be going to the Met Gala this year, instead choosing to stay at home with the kids.
Lively, who is married to fellow actor Ryan Reynolds, has become something of a fixture at the popular New York charity event over the years, and fans have been waiting for ages to see what she’d eventually turn up wearing.
However, this year the 35-year-old Gossip Girl star has decided not to bother, telling reporters as much while attending the opening of the Tiffany & Co Fifth Avenue shop in NYC on Thursday (27 April).

When asked if everyone would be able to see her on the red-carpeted steps at the Met Gala this Sunday (30 April), Lively responded: “You will not.”
Still, that doesn’t mean that she’ll be totally missing out on the fun, telling the reporters that she’ll be ‘watching’ anyway.
Never one to shy away from a joke - usually at her husband’s expense - Lively then said that she’d be wearing a gown that she received compliments for at last year’s event while sitting on the sofa at home.

“Thank you, that’s very sweet. I’ll be wearing that on my couch,” she quipped.
Lively has been attending the event since 2008, and last year she and Reynolds co-chaired the whole show.
Reynolds has obviously been busy in slightly less swanky climes of late, attending his beloved Wrexham AFC’s promotion back into the English Football League for the first time since 2008 last Saturday (22 April).
Would you rather go to a non-league football game in North Wales, or a fancy New York gala?

The answer to that question probably puts people into very distinct categories.
Either way, some people seem to be devastated that Lively won’t be hitting up the red carpet this year.
One tweet said: “Vanessa Hudgens didn’t go to Coachella and now this.. what’s next? Mariah Carey will not celebrate Christmas?”
Another wrote: “I’m still super sad that we aren’t getting Blake Lively at the Met Gala this year, I feel like we can always count on her to pull something amazing out of the bag.”

A third commented: “If Blake Lively isn’t going to the Met Gala bc of scheduling issues or something just reschedule the whole thing she’s the only one who consistently serves.”
Well, despite Lively’s absence, the show will have to go on.
This year’s event will celebrate the life and style of controversial fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld.

Entitled ‘Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty,’ the official dress code is ‘In Honour of Karl.’
It remains to be seen what everyone will show up wearing, but - as ever - you’d better believe there’ll be tongues wagging about it.
