Adam Sandler pays tribute to ‘the best’ Bob Barker following his passing aged 99

Sandler and Barker appeared in an iconic fight scene together in Happy Gilmore.

Adam Sandler has paid a heartbreaking tribute to the late Bob Barker who passed away on Saturday morning (26 August) at the age of 99.

The Price Is Right host died at his home in Los Angeles, according to his publicist, Roger Neal.

"It is with profound sadness that we announce that the World’s Greatest MC who ever lived, Bob Barker, has left us," Neal told the press.

The TV presenter has been in the public eye since 1956 and has appeared in over 6,500 The Price Is Right episodes from 1972 to 2007.

The Price Is Right went on to become the longest-running daytime game show in North American television history.

Barker was also known for his cameo movie appearances, the most iconic one being with Sandler as the pair acted out a legendary fight scene together in 1996's Happy Gilmore.

"The man. The myth. The best," Sandler wrote on Instagram on Saturday, alongside a series of throwback photos of him and Barker.

"Such a sweet funny guy to hang out with.

"Loved talking to him. Loved laughing with him.

"Loved him kicking the crap out of me. He will be missed by everyone I know!

"Heartbreaking day. Love to Bob always and his family! Thanks for all you gave us!"

Drew Carey, who took over from Barker as host, wrote on X (Twitter): "Very sad day for the Price Is Right family, and animal lovers all over the world.

"There hasn’t been a day on set that I didn’t think of Bob Barker and thank him.

"I will carry his memory in my heart forever.

"#RIPBobBarker. We love you."

Nancy Burnet, Barker’s friend and caretaker, also highlighted his long-time association with being an animal rights activist.

She said in a statement: “I am so proud of the trailblazing work Barker and I did together to expose the cruelty to animals in the entertainment industry and including working to improve the plight of abused and exploited animals in the United States and internationally.”

Since the news of his passing was confirmed, fans have taken to social media to share their tributes.

One person wrote: "RIP Bob Barker. An absolute legend. Price Is Right with Bob Barker will forever be the GOAT game show."

Another said: "A staple of television for 50 years. The smoothest broadcaster in the field of game shows. The man who took care of America's kids when they stayed home from school. Bob Barker, host of Truth or Consequences and The Price Is Right, has passed at age 99."

"RIP Bob Barker. You made my childhood sick days so much fun. Thank you for so many great memories," put a third.
