Danny DeVito had quite a shock when he read a script for It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia which thankfully turned out to be an April Fools' day prank.
DeVito's Frank Reynolds has been a fan-favourite character since he joined the oddball gang in season two and it's no surprise that the cast and crew pull pranks on each other.

After working together since season one debuted back in 2005, there were probably lots of pranks but this one takes the cake.
In a September episode of the podcast Pardon My Take, which is making the rounds on social media today - and happens to be for DeVito's birthday (17 November) - the comedian, actor and filmmaker describes one elaborate joke at his expense.
The 78-year-old actor was on his way to a read-through of the first script for an unspecified season of the critically acclaimed FXX sitcom.
DeVito was told that 'the guys changed their mind' about the script as he was given a brand new script, instead of the one he was prepared to read.

The actor was told production staff were in an office nearby and were eager to hear his thoughts.
"So, I start reading it and it's a show, normal show, we're in the bar, they're doing some prank, they're doing something, they're trying to get over on somebody and they need a hooker so they send me out to get a hooker," DeVito says as he recalls reading the script.
"I go in the car, I go to get a hooker, I get arrested immediately. Page four I get arrested. I'm thrown in jail. I'm in a shower getting banged by some guy."

Still in disbelief, DeVito says: "They wrote an entire script where I get banged like six times by a white supremacist, by cops, by everybody until the very last moment when Frank - there's a description of me laying on a cot... I'm depleted. I've been banged by everybody."
In the script, a cop tells Frank that someone has paid his bail. Struggling to walk, Frank encounters another 'big guy' cop who says: "Well, Frank. You're not gonna leave before you say goodbye."
Frank is then thrown onto the ground and 'all the cops come', which is totally brutal.

In the last part of the scene, the cop leans into Frank's ear and says 'April Fool motherf****r,' which also happened to be the moment DeVito realised he had been savagely pranked with a fake episode.
"I knew immediately that it was April 1st and those sons of b*****s wrote a whole script just to bust my balls!'
Luckily, DeVito is a good sport!
