It's the question you never need to know the answer to, but here it is anyway: David Beckham can wolf down an incredible number of snails.
During an appearance on the food podcast River Cafe Table 4, Becks told host Ruthie Rogers that he developed quite a taste for the slimy snack while playing for Paris Saint Germain in the latter stages of his career.
But while footballers nowadays are known for their scientific approach to nutrition, Beckham said his diet often went out the window when confronted with a plate of escargot, revealing a genuinely mind boggling personal best for the number of snails eaten in a single sitting.

'My record for eating escargots is I’ve eaten 32 at one dinner,' he said, adding, 'they’re big. They come on trays of six or nine.'
The England legend went on to explain that while living in Paris he and wife Victoria had hit upon a favourite local haunt that served up the classic French delicacy – Chez l'Ami Louis in the city's 3rd arrondissement – and on the day he set his escargot record had spent 'about four hours' knocking back snails and drinking 'the most amazing wine'.
'I used to go in there once a week. I shouldn’t have done, because I was a professional athlete and I try to watch what I eat, but I made sure I ran harder the next day.'

Perhaps unsurprisingly, it seems Victoria did not acquire the same taste for escargot as her husband, with Beckham having previously revealed on the podcast that while he gets 'quite emotional about food and wine,', his wife has eaten more or less the same thing 'for the last 25 years'.
'Since I met Victoria, she only eats grilled fish, steamed vegetables, she will very rarely deviate away from there,' he said.
'The only time she’s probably ever shared something that’s been on my plate was actually when she was pregnant with Harper and it was the most amazing thing. It was one of my favourite evenings. I can’t remember what it was but I know she’s not eaten it since.'

To be fair to Posh Spice, it's not *only* grilled fish and steamed veg; the former Spice Girl turned fashion designer has explained during her own appearance on the River Cafe podcast that she'll occasionally treat herself to a slice of 'whole grain toast with salt on it'.
