Honey Boo Boo involved in a high speed car chase with police

The reality TV star was in the car as police pursued it for three miles

Reality TV star Honey Boo Boo has been involved in a three-mile high speed car chase with police in Georgia.

The 17-year-old, whose real name is Alana Thompson, was in the car being driven by her boyfriend, 21-year-old Dralin Carswell, when the chase took place on Tuesday (28 February).

The incident began at around 4:30pm local time in Monroe County, Georgia, when a police officer checked the registration sticker of a Dodge Charger seen in front of a gas station on Highway 24.

The police system revealed that the owner of the car had a warrant against them, prompting the officer to try and make a traffic stop.

The chase ensued when Carswell refused to stop and instead sped north with Thompson in one of the passenger seats. Another seat was occupied by 24-year-old Julian Malik Divon Williams.

Police pursued the vehicle for three miles before deploying a precision immobilization technique (PIT) manoeuvre, which caused the car to spin and come to a stop near Hickman Road.

Officers arrested Carswell for Driving Under the Influence, fleeing, failing to maintain lanes and following too closely, local media reports. He also received a speeding citation.

Thompson and Carswell have been dating for two years.

Police also arrested Williams on outstanding warrants, but Thompson was not charged and is only being considered a witness in the case.

Thompson's sister Lauryn 'Pumpkin' Shannon, who has sole custody of the 17-year-old, is believed to have picked Thompson up from Monroe County Jail following the ordeal.

Thompson and Carswell have had a relationship for a couple of years and have shared snaps of themselves together out on dates, though they have received criticism from some over their four-year age gap.

Thompson's mother, June 'Mama June' Shannon, defended her daughter in an interview last year when she assured she had met Carswell and said at the time they had 'been together for over a year'.

"People need to realise that she's going to be 17 in August and that Pumpkin and Josh were the same age as they were," the mom told TooFab.

She added: "She is getting a lot of hate because she's in an interracial relationship, he is older. But at the end of the day, Alana's not that 6-, 7-year-old child y'all fell in love with 11 years ago. Alana has grown up, she's graduating high school next year, guys!"

Thompson has also insisted she doesn't 'really care' what the 'haters' say about her relationship.

UNILAD has reached out to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office and a representative of Thompson for comment.
