John Stamos receives backlash for wearing bald cap in ‘solidarity’ with Full House co-star Dave Coulier after cancer diagnosis

John Stamos receives backlash for wearing bald cap in ‘solidarity’ with Full House co-star Dave Coulier after cancer diagnosis

Coulier has revealed he's undergoing treatment for stage 3 non-Hodgkin lymphoma

John Stamos has been criticised after he shared a photo on social media wearing a bald cap.

In a post, Stamos, 61, explained he was wearing the cap 'in solidarity' with his friend and Full House co-star Dave Coulier, but it didn't land well with followers.

Earlier this week, Coulier, 65, revealed he was undergoing treatment for stage 3 non-Hodgkin lymphoma.

Non-Hodgkin lymphoma is a type of cancer that develops in the lymphatic system, which is part of your immune system.

Prior to the diagnosis, Coulier had been suffering from a respiratory infection which caused major swelling to one of his lymph nodes.

Days later, he was diagnosed with an aggressive form of the cancer.

“Three days later, my doctors called me back and they said, ‘We wish we had better news for you, but you have non-Hodgkin's lymphoma and it's called B cell and it's very aggressive,’” he told People.

“I went from, I got a little bit of a head cold to I have cancer, and it was pretty overwhelming.

“This has been a really fast roller coaster ride of a journey.”

Two weeks after his diagnosis, Coulier shaved his head as a 'preemptive strike'.

Following Coulier going public with his battle, friend John Stamos took to Instagram, where he revealed he had 'thrown on' a bald cap in solidarity.

"Nothing like throwing on a bald cap and flexing some Photoshop skills to show some love and solidarity with my bro @dcoulier," he wrote.

"You’re handling this with so much strength and positivity—it’s inspiring. I know you’re going to get through this, and I’m proud to stand with you every step of the way. I love you."

But followers weren't impressed with the post and many took to the comments to criticise Stamos for not shaving his head instead.

One person wrote: "Hate to be that person but this is more insulting by putting on a bald cap then not shaving ur head. A person with cancer doesn’t have a 'cap' they can take off."

While another said: "Seriously just couldn’t shave your head bro?"

Others were quick to defend Stamos, however, with another writing: "Why are you guys being so miserable on a supportive post? Dave isn’t offended so why are you?

"John has a job and contracts that don’t allow him to change his appearance unless stated otherwise.

"Dave is an actor himself and understands that. What’s most important is John is there for his friend when he needs him. Praying for Dave."

And another said: "Awwww this is so cute... also, to anyone in the comments... if Dave isn’t offended by this, you shouldn’t be either and remember... John is an actor and may need his hair for his JOB. This should be a space filled with positivity and hope... take the negativity elsewhere."
