Katy Perry has explained why she decided to work with producer Dr. Luke for her upcoming album despite the previous allegations against him.
With Katy Perry expected to drop her sixth studio album later this month, fans have been overwhelmingly excited, especially since the artist has already teased some of the new tracks.
However, some fans have been more concerned with the collaborators on the body of work, namely record producer and songwriter Dr. Luke.

Dr. Luke - real name Łukasz Sebastian Gottwald - previously worked with Perry on some of her biggest songs, including ‘Teenage Dream’, ‘Dark Horse’, and ‘Roar’.
Fellow singer Kesha accused Dr. Luke of ‘sexual, physical and emotional abuse’ in 2014. He went on to countersue and accused Kesha of defamation. Dr. Luke has always denied the allegations against him.
After almost a decade of back and forth, the pair were able to settle the suit last year.

A court ruled that Dr. Luke was a public figure and therefore had to prove malicious intent regarding the claims Kesha made about him - but he couldn't.
The terms of the settlement weren't clear at the time, but both parties released statements afterwards sharing that they wanted to move on from the ordeal.
During a recent episode of the Call Her Daddy podcast, host Alex Cooper asked Perry about the backlash she received after deciding to work with Dr. Luke again.
The singer said: “Look, I understand that it started a lot of conversations and he was one of many collaborators that I collaborated with.

“But the reality is it comes from me. The truth is I wrote these songs from my experience of my whole life going through this metamorphosis.”
Perry continued: “He was one of the people to help facilitate all that, one of the writers, one of the producers.
“And I am speaking from my own experience. Like when I speak about 'Woman's World' I speak about feeling so empowered now, as a mother, as a woman, giving birth, creating life, creating another set of organs, a brain, a heart.

“I created a whole a** heart and I did it and I’m still doing it and I’m still a matriarch and feeling really grounded in that, that is where I am speaking from.
"So, I created all of this with several different collaborated, people I have collaborated with from the past, from Teenage Dream era, all of that.”
UNILAD has contacted Dr. Luke and Katy Perry representatives for comment.
