Kel Mitchell has responded after being trolled for his appearance on Good Burger 2, having taken to Instagram to hit back at the haters.

Mitchell starred alongside Kenan Thompson in the original 1997 kids’ comedy, Good Burger, which followed two friends called Dexter and Ed as they spent their summer working at a local fast food restaurant.

Earlier this year, the pair announced they’d be reprising their iconic roles with a sequel, confirming the news of Good Burger 2 on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

The official synopsis reads: "Dexter Reed (Thompson) is down on his luck after another one of his inventions fails. Ed (Mitchell) welcomes Dex back to Good Burger with open arms and gives him his old job back.

"With a new crew working at Good Burger, Dex devises a plan to get back on his feet but unfortunately puts the fate of Good Burger at risk once again."

Mitchell previously said he was ‘really excited for people to see it’ after seeing the script, telling Entertainment Weekly: "The script is really amazing. Kenan and I had an amazing time at the table read, and it's been great to figure out all the surprises. "We have a lot of surprises in the script that we're excited for people to see.

"We just wanted to make sure that this was a fun watch for everyone who has watched us over the years. I'm really excited to bring this to the world."

But while many people are excited to see the duo back in action after they started filming, others have shared cruel comments online about Mitchell’s appearance in on-set photos, with some joking that he looked like Jada Pinkett Smith's Set It Off character, Stony.

Mitchell appears to have taken it all in his stride, having posted a video on Instagram to mock the trolls.

Speaking in Ed’s voice, he said to the camera: "They said I look like Jada Pinkett [Smith], so we're about to set it off."

He added in the caption: "Ed and Dex about to set it off. Y'all get ready. This is going to be epic."

    Mitchell responded to the criticism.

And it seems like many fans agree, because after the sequel was announced, they rushed to Twitter to share their joy.

One user said: "I'm ready to order the Good Burger 2 with a side of Kenan and Kel nostalgia! Can't wait for this sequel!"

Someone else said “OMG! I can't wait for Good Burger 2! Kenan and Kel are the best duo ever!"

A third commented: "We just watched (for the 100th time) the first one with the kids.. 'Don't sell me Ed' One of the best movie lines ever."

Good Burger 2 is out later this year.
