Adrien Brody joined an elite group of actors who have won the only Oscar's they've been nominated for, yet, what should have been a celebration has been somewhat marred.
Okay, I don't think the New Yorker would agree with that sentiment, but all the talk surrounding the 51-year-old has focused on one or two things that he had done prior to accepting the statuette at the 97th Academy Awards ceremony.
The first was kind of forced upon him, and that was Halle Berry smooching him in front of his partner Georgina Chapman, while the second is 'gross' moment that cameras caught on his way to accept his Oscar for best actor.

So that we're all on the same page, I'll detail what took place after the now two-time Oscar-winner discovered that he had won for his leading performance as László Tóth in The Brutalist.
When his former Peaky Blinders co-star Cillian Murphy - who won his first Oscar last year - announced the news, Brody kissed his girlfriend, as well as co-stars on The Brutalist Felicity Jones and Guy Pearce, and made his way to the stage.
But while on his way to the stage, he suddenly realized he was chewing gum and turned around to toss it to Chapman to catch.
However, Chapman has since revealed that she didn't actually manage to catch it, despite running over to her partner to try.

Users flooded to Twitter to discuss the 'disgusting' act, with one writing: "Adrien Brody's gross act with the chewing gum proves all that money can't buy class and style."
Now, Brody has spoken out about the harmless moment during a discussion on Live With Kelly and Mark to defend the decision to chuck his gum to Chapman.
Speaking about it just moments after picking up his award, he said: "I could've swallowed it, but I didn't think about that. I had to get rid of it somehow."

Would people in a similar situation do the same? Personally, I would have just swallowed it or spat it into a tissue, if I had one.

But not everyone was repulsed by the move.
"I can’t believe people think Adrien brody chucking his gf his chewing gum is gross! I’d have tried to catch it with my mouth," one social media user joked.

While another was torn between their emotions, adding: "Adrien brody throwing his gum at his partner before going on stage is both iconic & disgusting."
Brody fended off the likes of Ralph Fiennes and Timothée Chalamet for the illustrious accolade.
