A year on from his sexual assault allegations being dismissed, Armie Hammer has claimed he is 'happier than ever' despite being 'broke'.

The Hollywood actor was on trial for after being accused of both rape and physically abusive behaviour by a woman he had an on-and-off relationship with, identified only as 'Effie', as well as shocking accusations of cannibalism.

The sexual abuse allegations were alleged to have taken place in early 2021, and subsequently his acting career has dried up - with only Death on the Nile, a murder mystery, having been released since news broke.

Although the movie - in which he featured alongside Russell Brand, who has also recently faced sexual assault allegations that he refuted - aired in 2022, meaning he was likely to have been cast prior to his own allegations.

But it wasn't until March last year that the Los Angeles District Attorney's office decided against pursuing the case due to 'insufficient evidence'.

A statement released by the office at the time read: "In this case, those prosecutors conducted an extremely thorough review, but determined that at this time, there is insufficient evidence to charge Mr. Hammer with a crime.

"As prosecutors, we have an ethical responsibility to only charge cases that we can prove beyond a reasonable doubt.

"Due to the complexity of the relationship and inability to prove a non-consensual, forcible sexual encounter, we are unable to prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt.”

Now, reflecting on the allegations he faced and his career appearing to come to an end after being 'cancelled', the Call Me By Your Name actor featured as a guest on the Club Random Podcast with Bill Maher.

He said: “The good place only comes from walking through hell," before adding: “It was a brutal experience.”

Hammer went on to suggest people might look at him and his A-list career and think he is in a financially different position than he has ever been in, but he claimed that this experience has shown him he doesn't need money to be happy.

Hammer added: "I’ve never been happier than I’ve ever been in my entire life.”

While Hammer denied the claims made against him, the ordeal did spark the 37-year-old to reportedly enter an in-patient treatment program in Florida where he was said to be treated for 'drug, alcohol, and sex issues'.

He continued: “Therapy for me has been a life changer. I needed an adjustment. There was some s*** going on.

"Here’s what I think would have happened had none of this gone on and like the cataclysmic tectonic shift in my life wouldn’t have happened.

"My life would have kept going exactly as it was, and I know that would ultimately only lead in one place and that’s death.”

Hammer added that he 'experienced an ego death, a career death, a financial death', and that 'you’ve got to die, and once you die you can then be reborn'.

"A phoenix isn’t going to rise if there's no ashes."
