Ben Affleck has spoken about how grateful he is for his ex-wife Jennifer Garner as he broke his silence for the first time on his most recent split from Jennifer Lopez.
The Gone Girl star opened up about his relationships in a new interview with GQ, which comes as he prepares to star in the sequel to his 2016 movie, The Accountant.
Arriving two months after Affleck finalized his divorce with Lopez, the interview saw the actor open up about his recent split and stress that Lopez is 'somebody [he has] a lot of respect for'.

"The truth is, when you talk to somebody, 'Hey, what happened?', well, there is no: 'This is what happened'. It’s just a story about people trying to figure out their lives and relationships in ways that we all sort of normally do."
He added: "For one thing, you start going, 'Okay, clearly this person has got these issues. Clearly they have these issues', and the reason I don’t want to share that, is just sort of embarrassing. It feels vulnerable."
Amid the split with Lopez, Affleck has continued to co-parent the three children he shares with his former wife, Garner, who he was married to from 2005-2018.
Photos of the pair show them still spending time together, and Affleck acknowledged that while every detail of his day-to-day life might be of interest to his fans, the most important thing to him is that he and his family know the truth of the situation.
"Look, I know what’s going on in my life," he told GQ. "And also, really more importantly, my kids know. We used to have a thing, my ex-wife and I, when they would see something (on a magazine) on a supermarket stand, we would say, well, 'You know this isn’t always true because if it were, you would have 15 brothers or sisters or whatever the number of stories is where they said that your mom was pregnant."

It’s more of a headache than anything else and there certainly are worse things."
In spite of the headlines surrounding Affleck's life and relationships, the actor insisted that his life is 'actually pretty drama-free'.
He continued: "I’m sure in your mind you’re thinking, Oh, well, you just got divorced. That’s not drama-free. And I understand that instinct, but all of this is pretty adult, and for all the sensational stuff that gets written, if somebody sat down and talked to me about it, and I said, 'Well, this is really the experience,' their eyes would glaze over with boredom."
