Dwayne Johnson gave away thousands of dollars to crew members in incredibly generous act while filming Red One

Dwayne Johnson gave away thousands of dollars to crew members in incredibly generous act while filming Red One

The actor said he likes to 'take care' of the crew as they're 'the backbone of our business'

Dwayne Johnson reportedly shared some of his multimillion-dollar net worth with the film crew for Red One.

According to Celebrity Net Worth, the wrestler-turned-actor has a staggering net worth of around $800 million, making him one of the richest Hollywood stars in the world.

But as was recently revealed by Johnson's Red One co-star Chris Evans, the actor doesn't keep all his wealth for himself.

While filming the highly anticipated Christmas movie, apparently the crew would part take in something known as 'splashing the pot' to boost morale on set.

At the end of the week, people would put a small amount (say five or ten bucks) into a pot, and get raffle tickets. Then, whoever's number was called would win all the money in the pot, which would sometimes add to up to a couple of thousand dollars - until Johnson got involved, that is.

Evans shared with PEOPLE: "DJ would splash the pot in ways that no other actor can keep up with, because as actors we're like, ‘I'll splash the pot. I'll put in a chunk of change here. I'm not in the running for it,’ but just a way to say thank you to the crew each week."

According to the Captain America favorite, Johnson would top the pot to be as much as $40,000 which went to a handful of people on different occasions.

"The crew is just so excited to work for DJ, and he works just as hard back for them," Evans went on.

Gushing about the hard work they do, Johnson himself added: "Well, I love that. Our crew is the backbone of our business, so you want to take care of them."

Johnson's generosity couldn't save the critics from slating their new movie, however. At the time of writing, it boasts just 33 percent on Rotten Tomatoes' Tomatometer.

In contrast, it has an 88 percent Audience Score, meaning it's seemingly gone down a storm with the public since it's release on November 6 in the UK.

One reviewer said of the film after giving it five stars on the website: "Great holiday movie. Funny and lots of action."

"Innovative storyline addressing a Christmas treasure," said another of Red One.

A third went on: "Loved this family-friendly, action packed Christmas film! My teenage kiddos did, too."

Meanwhile, someone else said it was 'the best movie I've seen in a while'.

Red One is now showing in cinemas worldwide.
