Priscilla Presley has made her thoughts on her and Elvis Presley’s age gap clear, as well as detailing why they ‘never had sex’ before marriage.
On Monday, (4 September), the 78-year-old attended a press conference for Sofia Coppola’s upcoming biographical drama Priscilla.
The movie - based on the widow’s 1985 memoir Elvis and Me - is premiering at the 80th Venice International Film Festival this evening and is one of the few American productions that was able to bring its cast due to the SAG-AFTRA writers' strike.

Ahead of the premiere screening of the A24 film, Jacob Elordi and Cailee Spaeny joined Coppola to discuss the coming-of-age movie.
While Priscilla was invited to the panel, she initially opted not to participate in discussions.

However, at one point in the proceedings, she did finally accept the microphone.
When a question was raised regarding how she felt about seeing her life being portrayed on the big screen, she answered and said she found it very ‘difficult’.
“It’s very difficult to sit and watch a film about you, about your life, about your love,” she said.

After getting teary, she steadied herself before going on to praise the 52-year-old director, saying: “Sofia did an amazing job. She did her homework, we spoke a couple of times and I really put everything out for her that I could.”
Elsewhere in the panel segment, Priscilla claimed that she ‘never had sex’ with the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll until they were married.
She said: “People think that was the attraction, it was sex. Not at all. I never had sex with him.
“He was very kind, very soft, very loving, but he also respected the fact I was only 14 years old.
“We were more in mind and thought and that was our relationship. Yes, he called me when he came back to the States.

“That was also part of our relationship, telling me all his woes and what was happening and how upset he was on the screen with the director [while making films].”
The mum-of-two then went on to question why Elvis ‘put so much trust’ in her before claiming that she ‘never told anyone’ that the pair were dating.
She said: “That was another issue that he loved, the fact that I never gave him up in any way. I never told anyone at school that I was seeing him.”
Regarding their ten-year age gap, Priscilla said: “It was very difficult for my parents to understand that Elvis would be so interested in me, and why.

“I was more of a listener. Elvis would pour his heart out to me in every way, in Germany, his fears, his hopes, the loss of his mother, which he never, ever got over.”
She then went on to say that she would ‘listen and comfort him’ - which was their ‘connection’ - despite only being 14 at the time.
“I was older in life than in numbers,” she continued.
Having her final say at the press conference, Priscilla confirmed that Elvis was the ‘love of her life’ but that she found the lifestyle that came with the marriage ‘difficult’.
“We still remained very close, and of course, we had our daughter [Lisa Marie], and I made sure that he saw her all the time. It was like we never left each other, so I want to make that clear. Thank you,” she concluded.
Priscilla is due to premiere at the Venice Film Festival on the evening of September 4 and will be released in the US on October 27, 2023.
