Jason Derulo ‘thought it was the end’ after he broke his neck in the gym

Jason Derulo ‘thought it was the end’ after he broke his neck in the gym

Jason Derulo was attempting a move similar to a back flip when he suffered a 'hangman's break'

Imagine not hearing 'Jason Derulooooo' at the start of a song?

Well, to be fair you'd just be imagining any other song ever written so it's not too hard to fathom.

But a world without Jason Derulo really was almost a possibility after he broke his neck during a freak accident at the gym.

Incredibly, the RnB star is only 34 years old - yes it feels like he's been around forever.

Paris Hilton invited on him onto her podcast I am Paris, and he revealed all to the 43-year-old.

He recalled the moment he sustained a 'hangman's break' which is something that usually only happens when someone is hung.

But it happened while he was practicing his on-stage routine for his then scheduled Future History tour in 2012, which was the artist's second studio album.

While attempting a 'back tuck', which in essence is a backflip that requires you to land on your hands and then your feet, he landed on his head and broke his C2 vertebrae.

Speaking to Paris, he said: "As soon as it happened I heard a big crack and I was just like, 'Holy s**t, is this it? Is this how it all ends?,' all the thoughts you could imagine were going through my head at the time.

"And I remember thinking to myself, 'Oh s**t my mum is in the car waiting for me outside', and I did not want to scare her, I did not want to alarm her.

"So after five minutes of lying on the ground I got myself together and walked to the car holding my neck."

He continued: "And I'm like, 'Mum I think I hurt myself a little bit inside we should probably go to the hospital just to check it out', every single bump felt like hell on earth.

"I'm just dying in that passenger seat but I didn't want to let her know that.

"We get to the hospital and they all these X-rays and doctor was like, 'I have some good news and some bad news. The good news is that you have a hangman's break which is the same break that happens when you get hung and you are still alive'.

"This could have ended up way crazier. I could have ended up paralysed or worst. And he was like, 'That is the good news that you are still here with us and you can move all your limbs. The bad news is that you are going to be out for seven months'."

Sadly, the singer had to cancel his tour at the time off the back of the freak injury, with the dates later rescheduled.
