Jennifer Lopez made co-star Ryan Guzman pretend he was single to promote their movie, his ex claims

Jennifer Lopez made co-star Ryan Guzman pretend he was single to promote their movie, his ex claims

The pair starred in 2015's The Boy Next Door

The ex-girlfriend of Ryan Guzman has claimed his former co-star Jennifer Lopez faked their relationship to help market their movie, The Boy Next Door.

In 2015, Rob Cohen’s The Boy Next Door was released on the silver screen.

Starring Lopez, 54, and Guzman, 36, the Universal Pictures project served as a semi-autobiographical erotic thriller and was billed with the tagline: ‘Her mistake. His obsession’.

The 90-minute movie, written by former criminal lawyer Barbara Curry, currently has a 12 percent rating on the Rotten Tomatoes Tomatometer.

Its current Letterboxd rating isn’t much better, with app users bestowing it 1.8 stars on average.

During the 2015 press tour, Lopez and Guzman repeatedly shut down claims that they were romantically involved.

During an interview with Ryan Seacrest, J.Lo said: “I'm not here for that. No, but seriously, I like to keep it professional! I don't need to get messy."

She also appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show to bat away accusations.

When asked outright by the 66-year-old if ‘anything was going on’ between the pair, the star replied in the negative.

“Does he have a girlfriend?,” Ellen later pressed.

“I think he might? I’m not sure, I know he did,” J.Lo responded. “I’m not in his business like that.”

Despite the pair brushing off speculation, Guzman’s ex-partner Melanie Iglesias claims Lopez would ‘hold hands’ with the actor at after-parties.

In a new interview, the model alleged that the ‘Jenny from the Block’ hitmaker would also routinely act like the pair were an item.

Appearing on a recent episode of the No Chasers with Tim Chantarangsu podcast, Iglesias recounted meeting Lopez at an awards ceremony.

“She wanted my ex to go upstairs and she met me and she looked me up and down and she gave me the hardest, firmest handshake in the world,” she alleged.

Iglesias continued to claim that the actress was trying to ‘intimidate’ and that she made Guzman ‘pretend’ to be single to promote their film.

“The publicist called me…They were at afterparties together, holding hands and stuff to promote this. It’s even worse because I’m leaving a big part of it out but yeah that sucks.”

Elsewhere in the interview, the woman claimed the reportedly fake relationship ‘wasn’t okay’ before questioning where the pair’s ‘faith in the movie’ was during this time.

Following the conclusion of The Boy Next Door’s domestic box office run, it earned a total of $35.4 million.

The R-rated movie also earned another $17.0 million in foreign markets, bringing the total to $52.4 million.
