Lily Allen under fire for giving dog back to shelter after it ate one small thing

Lily Allen under fire for giving dog back to shelter after it ate one small thing

The singer said that the dog 'ruined her life'

Lily Allen is facing criticizm after revealing why she had returned her adopted dog back to the shelter.

The 'Smile' hitmaker lives in New York with her Stranger Things star husband David Harbour and her two daughters.

Allen revealed on her podcast, Miss Me?, that the family had previously adopted a dog, however, they were left with no choice but to take her 'back to the home' following a particular incident - and people aren't happy.

The 39-year-old said: "We actually did adopt a dog already, but then it ate my passport and so I took her back to the home."

The incident apparently caused a huge issue for the singer as after the pooch ate their passports, Allen and her children were unable to fly back to the UK to see her daughters' dad.

"She ate all three of our passports and they had our visas in," Allen went on. "And I cannot tell you how much money it cost me to get everything replaced, because it was in Covid and so it was just an absolute logistical nightmare."

The 'Not Fair' singer continued: "The father of my children lives in England, I couldn’t take them back to see their dad for like four months, five months, because this f***ing dog had eaten the passports."

The ordeal left Allen unable to look at the dog, whom she said 'ruined [her] life'.

Defending her reason, she said the dog was 'very badly behaved' and explained that the passports 'weren't the only thing she ate'.

"She was a very badly behaved dog and I really tried very hard with her, but it just didn’t work out and the passports were the straw that broke the camel’s back so to speak," the mom-of-two added.

While living in New York, Allen and Harbour adopted a puppy from a shelter in the city named Mary.

It's believed the celebrity pair adopted Mary in 2021 and even created an Instagram page dedicated to the pooch, but posts about the puppy came to an abrupt end not long after the page was created, as per The Independent.

The Daily Mail reported that Mary was the dog in question, however, Allen did not mention which dog it was.

In light of her recent revelations, people have criticized the singer for returning her dog.

Someone raged on Twitter: "Lily Allen is all that’s wrong with the world, got a puppy, used it for likes on instagram and then sent it back to the home because it chewed up her family passports that she left within its reach. Hopefully this pup found someone who deserves her."

"Lily Allen is an irresponsible pet owner and rather than leave the family documents in a safe location, she would rather blame the dog and get rid of it," another said.

Meanwhile, others shared their own experiences of having mishaps with their dogs and how it didn't spark them to get rid of their pets.

Somone shared: "My dog Jake once ate some gig tickets a mate had posted thru the door for a Chris Cornell solo show. Did we get rid of him? F**k no.

"He’s the best. He’s not responsible for his actions. B*llocks to Lily Allen."

UNILAD has approached Allen's reps for comment.
