    The Friends star opened up about how he wants to be remembered in an interview last year.

    Friends' Matthew Perry spoke out about the legacy he wants to leave behind in an interview last year.

    The much loved actor, best known for his starring role as Chandler Bing in US sitcom Friends, passed away at the age of 54.

    He was discovered yesterday (Saturday, 29 October) at his home in Los Angeles.

    Law enforcement sources told The LA Times that Perry was discovered at around 4:00pm in his hot tub at his home.

    They reported no drugs were found at the scene and no foul play is suspected.

    There is currently no official cause of death.

    Perry's death is being investigated by Los Angeles Police Department's robbery-homicide detectives, according to the LA Times.

    Fans of the star have flooded to social media to commemorate him, sharing clips of Perry, including an interview he did with Tom Power.

    In an interview about his memoir Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing, Perry sat down with Tom Power at the Hot Docs Ted Rogers Cinema in Toronto at the end of last year to reflect on his life, and Power asked the actor how he would 'like to be remembered'.

    To which Perry responded: "I would like to be remembered as somebody who lived well, loved well, was a seeker and his paramount thing is he wants to help people.

    "That's what I want."

    Fans of the Friends star have flooded to social media in heartbreak over the clip.

    One X - formerly known as Twitter - user said: "That’s very, very, very, sad. He struggled for years with alcoholism, he inspired me and countless 1000’s of others who struggled with alcohol.

    "May he RIP, thoughts & prayers are with his kids, family & friends."

    "Matthew Perry's words beautifully reflect his character and values. He lived well, brought joy to others, and inspired us to seek the same. His desire to help people left a lasting impact, and he will be remembered with deep admiration and respect," another added.

    A third commented: "He brought joy into this world that alone says so much."

    Producers of Friends, Warner Bros. Television Group said in a statement to The LA Times: "We are devastated by the passing of our dear friend Matthew Perry. Matthew was an incredibly gifted actor and an indelible part of the Warner Bros. Television Group family.

    "The impact of his comedic genius was felt around the world, and his legacy will live on in the hearts of so many.

    "This is a heartbreaking day, and we send our love to his family, his loved ones, and all of his devoted fans."
