Many fans were disappointed when they realized Matthew Perry wasn’t included in 2024 Emmy’s memoriam and have been searching for answers.
While it can be hard to believe, it has almost been a year since Friends star and actor Matthew Perry died.
Perry was found dead in his hot tub on October 28 2023 and his cause of death was given as 'the acute effects of ketamine', with the subsequent investigation looking into how the drug entered his system.

While many fans have mourned the passing of the actor, many were expecting him to be included in this year’s Emmy’s memoriam, that was held on September 15.
"Did I miss it or did the Emmy's not show Matthew Perry????" one person wrote on Twitter.
"How in the world did the Emmy's not include Matthew Perry?!?!"another added.

“During the memorial for those who passed how the heck did they omit #MatthewPerry. This was a horrific disrespectful oversight,” a third wrote.
“I sat here in tears listening to Jelly Roll just thinking of him. I am so sad about his death.” posted another.
However, the explanation for why he wasn’t included is actually rather simple.
Perry was actually already honored at the 2023 Emmy’s ceremony.

This was held in January, 2024, as it was pushed back from its normal September 2023 slot due to the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strikes.
During that ceremony, the award show paid tribute to Perry in a rather sweet way.
They played Friend’s iconic opening song during the In Memoriam segment and concluded it with an image of Perry.
The Los Angeles Police Department announced in May 2024 that it would be investigating the source of the ketamine found in Perry's system, which was welcomed by fans who had their suspicions surrounding his death.

Following the investigation into Perry’s death, five people were accused of taking advantage of the US actor after he fell back into addiction.
The US Department of Justice shared that their investigation revealed a 'broad underground criminal network' that 'took advantage' of the actor by selling him ketamine.
Perry had been seeking treatment for depression and anxiety when he became addicted to intravenous ketamine.
