Fans defend Pete Davidson for walking off stage after being heckled during stand-up gig

Fans defend Pete Davidson for walking off stage after being heckled during stand-up gig

Fans reportedly shouted 'Ariana Grande' at Pete Davidson during the Omaha gig

Fans have been defending Pete Davidson after he left a show early this week.

The 30-year-old stand-up comedian was performing at a show in Nebraska as part of his Prehab Tour when he walked off stage.

It's believed the abrupt ending was a result of heckling in the audience, with some reportedly shouting 'Ariana Grande' - one of Pete's exes.

Pete dated Ariana for around five months back in 2018, with the pair even getting engaged.

Discussing the incident over on Reddit, one person spoke about what happened.

They said: "The 3 or 4 groups responsible for the premature ending of the late show should have learned their behavior was unwanted when Pete responded to a random heckler who disrupted a joke by shouting 'Ariana Grande!' in the beginning of the show and he responded 'Shut up!' In an appropriate but irritated way.

"Toward the end of the show, Pete tried to engage positively when a man shouted 'We love you Pete!' during a lull between jokes. To which he replied 'Oh! Someone is shouting something nice for once!'

"That was the segue to him explaining in the form of his comedic storytelling, that he feels unfairly treated due to the public fascination with shouting at him. This should have been explanation enough for anyone listening that yelling toward or at him is something he doesn’t like."

The Reddit poster claimed other people in the crowd 'also wanted to be noticed' and started shouting even more.

"This communication created a domino effect from crowds seated in the upper floor while he tried to interject, stating he wants to finish the last joke, which was sure to be absolutely worth it," they wrote.

"Between the collective shouting and Pete demanding he tell the final joke then consequently where he held his hands up, dropped the mic, walked off and lights was probably all of ten seconds.

"It was more important for them to be noticed by Pete and have a story to tell than to show respect.

"Good on Pete for disciplining the petulant audience that showed up like an attention-seeking 3-year-old demanding their presence noticed while the adults talk. Wasn’t the time. Truly disappointing."

Another audience member, Kate Stivers, said in a YouTube video: "I just left the Pete Davidson show in Omaha and I just have to say, where the f**k did decorum go at events?

"Because he shouldn’t have had to walk off stage because you guys don’t understand that because you see crowd work on TikTok that you think every comedian now needs to be heckled to the point that they leave stage with one joke left."

People in the comments - who also attended - agreed that the heckling was annoying, with another adding: "I was there, and yeah, I kind of don't blame him. I've only been to a handful of comedy shows, and I hate when people just yell s**t to get attention."

And another wrote: "This sucks for the people who didn’t act like children at that show."
