Rod Stewart says his 'days are numbered' as he discusses view on dying

Legendary rock singer Rock Stewart has opened up about why he doesn't 'fear' death and his plans for the 'numbered' days he has left

Ahead of his 80th birthday, Sir Rod Stewart has opened up about the future and what his plans are for 'these last few years'.

The legendary rock singer - who's one of the best-selling music artists of all time - may be 79, but that doesn't stop him from still getting up on stage and performing, even taking to social media to declare he'll 'never retire'.

However, Stewart has been reflecting on the years to come, ahead of marking his eightieth year on this planet and thinking about what else he wants from life. And Stewart fans fret not, because by 'last few years,' he doesn't just mean two or three.

In an interview with The Sun, Stewart admitted he's 'not like [he] was in the '70s and '80s' and is certainly 'more aware of [his] health now than before'.

He explained: "I can’t stay up all night, get drunk and go mad and still have a voice just like that. Nowadays I have to protect my voice before and after every show.

"The older you get, the more you have to do that. Water has a hell of a lot to do with it."

However, does that mean he only drinks water? Certainly not.

Stewart noted he still goes 'mad after every show'.

"You’re talking to Rod Stewart here, mate. [...]There are 13 of us, six women, really great musicians and I make them drink. We absolutely love it," he added.

And the musician admitted he also wets the whistle before shows too, having 'a quick Bacardi', which he tries to tell himself is 'good for [his] voice'.

However, while jesting about how he's continued his rock 'n' roll ways despite his age, Stewart admitted he's 'aware [his] days are numbered,' but added he's 'got no fear'.

He continued: "We have all got to pass on at some point, so we are all in the same basket.

"I am going to be enjoying myself for these last few years as much as I can. I say few - probably another 15. I can do that easy mate, easy."

In the next however many years of his life, Stewart has 'ambitions like touring with Jools,' but ultimately 'would feel greedy if [he] asked for anything more'.

Stewart resolved: "I have had a good time and a good life and I’ve enjoyed myself, so I wouldn’t ask for anything more.

"Probably good health and good health for my children and happiness... and Celtic [football club] doing well.

"We beat Man City the other day in a friendly. I am truly fanatical about Celtic still."
