Britney Spears' ex-husband Sam Asghari makes rare comments about their divorce

Britney Spears' ex-husband Sam Asghari makes rare comments about their divorce

Britney Spears and Sam Asghari divorced in 2023 less than two years into their marriage

Sam Asghari, Britney Spears' ex-husband, has made some rare comments about last year's surprise divorce.

The pair tied the knot in 2022 after six years of dating, but called it quits just 14 months into their marriage.

Asghari confirmed that he had filed for divorce, telling his Instagram followers that 'after six years of love and commitment to each other' he and Spears 'have decided to end our journey together'.

Asghari conceded it would be a tall ask to request privacy so he instead asked for people to be 'kind and thoughtful'.

Before an official announcement, the likes of TMZ, ET Online and PEOPLE reported the pair had split because of 'irreconcilable differences'.

TMZ even claimed things had been bulling up for a while following a 'nuclear argument'.

Well, Asghari sat down with the Hollywood Reporter recently to discuss his relationship with Spears.

First of all, the 30-year-old revealed that he chose to steer clear of the singer's memoir, The Woman in Me, because 'I was there'. I mean, he certainly has a point.

Speaking about their divorce, Asghari added: "When something ends, of course, there’s going to be a moment where you are sad or upset, but just be happy that it ever even happened.

"Celebrate the past. That’s how I look at it."

Speculation has suggested in the past that the model may have signed an NDA after he split from Spears.

But in this recent interview, Asghari dismissed the claims and revealed an NDA wouldn't have been required anyway.

He explained: "If my life is private, it’s private. It's just the values that I have."

Earlier this year, Asghari echoed similar sentiments in an interview with PEOPLE.

"I've always hated people leaving a certain relationship — and at some point they told each other they love each other and they sat at the same table and ate food [together] — so I never understood when people part ways [and] they talk badly about each other," he explained.

"That's something I'm never going to do because I had nothing but an amazing experience and a great life, and that's always going to be part of my life, a chapter of my life."

Asghari went on to reveal he's focusing on a 'healthy lifestyle' and furthering his career.

“I used to think people that were 30 years old were so old when I was in high school. But for every person I talk to, the older they get, the more they get to enjoy life because with age comes wisdom and experiences,” he said.

"And I think experiences in life are beautiful, so that's something that I'm just super excited to just be fulfilled with."
