Saoirse Ronan makes surprising admission regarding her personal life

Saoirse Ronan makes surprising admission regarding her personal life

Saoirse Ronan tied the knot this summer with actor Jack Lowden and shared a rare insight into her relationship

Saoirse Ronan has given fans a rare insight into her personal life.

The Hollywood star had her breakthrough role playing Keira Knightley’s younger sister in the 2007 film Atonement, which earned her an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress.

She has built up an impressive list of credits, having starred in The Grand Budapest Hotel, Lady Bird and Little Women.

The 30-year-old Blitz actor - who is notoriously private - has now given a candid interview.

In the past, Ronan has admitted she 'doesn't like talking' about her personal life, particularly her relationship with her husband, actor Jack Lowden.

The pair were first linked in 2018, however they have mostly kept the details of their relationship out of the spotlight.

They got married in a secret ceremony in Scotland back in July and made their red carpet debut as spouses in September at the Emmys. Lowden was nominated for his supporting role in the TV drama, Slow Horses.

When asked about her dating life in an interview with ES Magazine in 2019, Ronan said: “Oh I’m not going to talk about that. I don’t like talking about that side of life.

“Most of the actors I know live pretty normal lives, it’s just every now and again they have to do something ridiculous or extraordinary. My life hasn’t changed. People seem more interested — I guess that’s changed, for sure.”

Now, however, she's given fans a rare insight into her life outside of work.

“My life has become so much more than just work,” the acclaimed actor told USA Today. “For a long time, that’s all I did; that’s how I met people and made sense of the world.

“I feel like I’m part of a group, which I never thought I would have. I used to think, ‘You’ll never have friends. You’ll never have a partner’.

"I was so in my own world, in a lot of ways. So no, to feel like I’ve got a very rich personal and social life — it’s so precious to me.”

Speaking about Lowden in particular, she revealed: "Jack is a lot calmer than I am. He’s my voice of reason."

She also said they were looking to work together in the future, saying: "Jack didn't want to for a long time, but I've now convinced him that's a great idea. I’d really like to do something together on stage."

Ronan recently went viral after making an appearance on The Graham Norton Show.

She was on the red couch to promote her new film Blitz when she interrupted fellow guests Paul Mescal and Eddie Redmayne as they joked about having been taught how to attack someone with the base of a phone.

Mescal said: "Who is actually going to think about that? If someone actually attacked me, I'm not going to go 'phone'."

Whilst the pair joked about this, Ronan tried to speak up twice, before eventually cutting across them to say: "That's what girls have to think about all the time".

After an initial moment of awkward silence, she added 'Am I right, ladies?', which got a huge response from the crowd.

The comment sparked debates and conversations on women's safety. Ronan reflected on her talk show appearance when speaking to Ryan Tubridy on Virgin Radio UK and said it 'wasn't something she expected'.

"The reaction has been wild," she said. "And I didn't necessarily set out to sort of make a splash.

"But I do think there's something really telling about the society that we're in right now and about how open women want to be with the men in their lives."

"So many men and women that I know from all over the world have gotten in touch with me about this one comment, which is, again, I would urge people, please, please, please to watch this in context."
