Usher’s ex-wife Tameka Foster is calling for the lake in which her son died to be drained.

Foster’s 11-year-old son, Kile Glover, who she shared with her ex-husband Ryan Glover, was riding on an inner tube on Lake Lanier in Atlanta, Georgia, when he was hit by a jet ski in July 2012.

He spent weeks in the hospital but sadly died from his injuries.

Jeffrey Hubbard, a close friend of Kile Glover’s father, was sentenced to four years in prison for the accident.

On 6 July 2023, the 11th anniversary of the accident, Foster took to Instagram to share a petition calling for the lake to be drained.

She captioned the post: “On this significant day, July 6, we remember the tragic accident on Lake Lanier that forever altered my life.

“My courageous son, Kile Glover, fought for two weeks with unwavering strength until his passing on 21 July.

“Today, we honor his memory by rallying together for change. Let's ensure a safer future by demanding improved safety measures, better zoning, and the removal of haunted debris from the lake.

Tameka posted the petition on the 11th anniversary of the accident.

“Join me in signing the petition and sharing this vital cause. Together, we can create a fresh start and bring about lasting transformation. #JusticeForKile #SignForSafety #IWILLFIGHTTILTHEENDOFMYDAYS.”

The petition is calling for the lake to be drained, cleaned and restored and for safety measures to be improved.

"Draining, cleaning, and restoring Lake Lanier is not only necessary but also an opportunity to honor the memory of those who have lost their lives and prevent further tragedies.

"We appeal to the relevant authorities, including government officials, environmental agencies, and stakeholders, to prioritize this critical undertaking," Foster explains in the petition.

"We urge you to allocate the necessary resources, expertise, and funding to initiate the drainage, cleaning, and restoration process promptly."

Foster is also calling for stricter regulations and zoning for water-related activities plus more water safety education programmes for visitors of 'all ages' to the lake.

"Together, let us create a cleaner, safer, more enjoyable, and inclusive environment for all visitors and residents.' she concludes the petition.

As of Wednesday (July 12) the petition has 1,616 signatures at the time of writing.

Foster and Usher were married for two years, between 2007 and 2009.
