Nicolas Cage has revealed how he ended up seeking inspiration from a slightly unusual - but very delicious - source when he was trying to find an outfit to wear to this year's South by Southwest.
The actor finally decided to go for a plaid suit that reminds him of just how 'happy' he feels when eating... shortbread.
Cage rocked up to the annual conference on Saturday, March 12, where his forthcoming film The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent was being screened ahead of its release next month. In a red carpet interview with Lionsgate, which is distributing the movie, the star explained how he'd travelled over from New Orleans, where he's been filming Dracula flick Renfield, and had had a bit of trouble trying to find something to wear.

He ultimately decided that he wanted to dress like a 'can of shortbread', proceeding to go on a brilliantly bizarre rant about the traditional Scottish biscuit.
Check it out:
When asked about his look, he replied: 'I really like shortbread, and whenever I'm in England I go get a tin can of shortbread. And I was feeling kinda happy, kinda like I was biting into shortbread. So tonight I wanted to dress like I was a can of shortbread.

'Actually, I didn’t know what I was gonna wear, you see. I’m in New Orleans filming and working on the Dracula project, and I was like, 'I have nothing to wear at South by Southwest', and then I walked to Brooks Brothers and they had a plaid suit and I was like, 'I knew you guys do seersucker, I didn’t know you did plaid'.
'And I said, 'Wow, I’m gonna wear this. And, what’s more, I’m gonna really enjoy that I’m in a plaid suit because I’ve never had one before'. So that’s why.'
So far, the reviews for Cage's new film are pretty positive across the board, with a review from IndieWire's Jude Dry saying: 'The zippy meta-comedy plays like a fan letter to Cage from someone who’s not only seen a lot of movies, but has good taste. Toggling between Hollywood insider comedy to spy thriller to bromance, at times it feels like the movie is threading the world’s most ridiculous needle. What begins as a highbrow episode of Entourage quickly turns into a hilarious spy spoof grounded by a genuine friendship love story between adult men.'

Owen Glieberman from Variety also wrote: 'The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent is at once a gently preposterous buddy movie; a poker-faced crime thriller in which Nic is coerced, by a couple of CIA agents (Tiffany Haddish and Ike Barinholtz), into spying on Javi, who they allege has kidnapped the daughter of the president of Catalonia; and a hall-of-mirrors romp in which the life of Nicolas Cage turns into a movie and then back again.'
The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent hits cinemas on April 22, 2022.
