Stifler's behaviour in American Pie is undoubtedly some of the most memorable of the film, so much so that it's hard to believe actor Seann William Scott got paid next to nothing for his role.

To be clear, when I say 'next to nothing' I mean in comparison to other actors starring in Hollywood films. If you got handed his paycheque out of the blue, you'd still be pretty happy.

The actor reminisced about his pay for the 1999 film during a game of Celebrity True or False on The Rich Eisen Show, when the host questioned Scott about how much he was paid and was apparently entirely baffled to hear the reports about the figure were true.

Find out how much Stifler's iconic lines and 'Maniac' dance moves were worth below:

To put into perspective just how little Stifler earned for the first film, sources cited by The Hollywood Reporter reveal that 2012's American Reunion saw him receive an impressive $5 million for his appearance.

Co-stars stars Alyson Hannigan and Eugene Levy each received around $3 million, while the rest of the cast received paycheques in the $500,000 to $750,000 range.

Of course, the creators at that point did have the success of the franchise behind them, as well as more than a decade of inflation, but it's still shocking to hear that for his first appearance Scott earned less than 0.25 percent of what he did for the final film.

During his interview on The Rich Eisen Show, the actor confirmed that his debut as Stifler earned him just $8,000 (£6,700).

"I think [that's right], yeah because I remember afterwards I bought a used Thunderbird, for like $5,000 (£4,200), maybe $6,000 (£5,040)," he said, before admitting: "I don't know what happened to the other two grand."

Though Scott said the paycheque was 'a lot of money at the time' for him, he made clear it didn't last long as after concluding American Pie he went to work as a 'churro guy' at the LA Zoo to continue bringing in money as he waited for the film to come out.

"Maybe it was even less than $8,000," he added.

Thankfully American Pie soon went on to become a hit, raking in $235.4 million (£196.9m) worldwide and resulting in a series of spin-offs which earned Scott a little more than $8,000. As well as the popular 90s comedy, the actor has appeared in films such as Dude, Where's My Car? and The Dukes of Hazzard.
