Selena Gomez was seen telling Kid Cudi that he's making her 'nervous' in a livestream that some viewers are calling cringey.

The pair collaborated on a music project back in 2020, and at the time, the former Disney star decided to go live on Instagram while they were hanging out.

Although the footage was innocent enough, showing them goofing around and playing parts of their track, a couple of clips from the exchange were recently shared on Twitter and it's sparked a bit of a debate online.

Daily Loud posted a particular moment in which Cudi - real name Scott Mescudi - asks Selena if they were live streaming, to which she says, "Yes, on my Instagram."

She then asks if she could go live on Facebook, to which Cudi says: "You can do that."

The rapper and producer then starts describing an incident in which a woman went live on the platform just after her husband was shot by a police officer.

Cudi may have been referring to the incident of Philando Castile, a 32-year-old who was fatally shot during a traffic stop by police officer Jeronimo Yanez of the St Anthony Police Department.

Castile's wife began live streaming the 2016 incident as soon as the officer fired the gun. Riots broke out following the shocking death as it once again highlighted the issue of police brutality against Black people in the US.

Although Cudi didn't specifically confirm this to be the case he was referring to, the details match up, as he also pointed out that the couple's young daughter was in the back seat at the time of the attack.

His aside left Gomez visibly perplexed. "I don't like that," she tells him, to which he replies, "Yeah, it was gnarly."

She later asks, "Where do we go from here?" before telling him to 'sit down' as it's making her 'nervous'.

Alongside the clip, Daily Loud wrote: "This awkward Kid Cudi moment with Selena Gomez will forever be uncomfortable."

However, a number of people hit back at the suggestion that it was 'awkward', with one commenter writing: "How’s that awkward? Non black always don’t care. Us black people do."

Another said: "I don't think thats an awkward thing to say. That’s actually a really good topic to bring up... Could lead to so many other conversations."

Some people described the exchange as 'awkward'.

On the other side of the fence, one person said, "Not everyone is okay talking about death. Some vibes are just not wanted," although they received the following response: "You care more about vibes than our people being persecuted."

A second chimed in: "Why would he even bring that up, like he gives 'oh ima kill the vibe cause I’m not happy' type of energy."

Whatever the case, the clip is very easy to scrutinise when it's out of context. Overall, the pair appeared to have a riot together and their partnership led to the release of the track A Sweeter Place.
