Footage of a joey growing inside momma kangaroo's pouch has captivated millions of viewers who have described it as 'amazing'.

The idea of a furry little kangaroo sticking out of its mom's pouch is undoubtedly cute, but have you ever really thought about how it gets there in the first place?

Like humans, kangaroos give birth to their babies - but unlike humans, joeys effectively crawl back 'inside' after they've arrived.

That's because baby kangaroos are only the size of a jelly bean when they're first born; in order to grow, they make their way inside the mother's pouch and remain there for another size months, during which time it feeds on its mom's milk.

Footage of a joey living in it's mom's pouch was shared on the Facebook page Lessons Learned In Life, where it racked up 141 million views and became one of the biggest videos on the page in 2023.

"Amazing pregnancy kangaroo journey," one captivated viewer wrote, as another added: "So beautiful."

Lessons Learned In Life has amassed more than 22 million followers since it was created in 2010 , and has gone on to become one of the top 20 widely viewed Facebook pages in the world.
