An Australian content creator has sparked mixed reactions after revealing some of the issues he's found with owning a Tesla.

Luke Erwin, who has been known to incite controversy with his videos shared on Instagram and TikTok, took to the latter platform after Christmas to share some of the pros and cons of the Tesla Model 3.

The TikToker showed off his white car before climbing inside and starting to list the issues with the car, beginning with how it made him too hot under the Australian summer sun. Hear his other complaints below:

Addressing his followers, Erwin began: "First thing guys, inside the car it's boiling hot."

Anyone who's ever got into a car on a hot day will know they can heat up like an oven, but Erwin argued the issue is heightened in a Tesla because of the window on the roof, saying: "The sun comes directly in and makes it boiling hot."

He then went on to criticise the cost of upgrading the Tesla's system, claiming the upgrades for Tesla's Smart Summon and Autopilot and Full Self-Driving systems cost $10,000 AUD (£5,600/$6,7000), or $5,000 AUD (£2,800/$3,400) for a 'more simple one'.

"I didn't know about that," Erwin admitted.

"Then you've got the superchargers," the content creator continued. "Now if you thought the superchargers are cheap, or free, they're actually not. So to charge this car would cost about $30 AUD (£16/$20). It will take 30 minutes from zero to 100 percent full."

"I think my biggest disappointment was I thought charging was free until I got the car... and you can't stay in a Tesla supercharger when you're not charging or it will charge you [money]," Erwin commented, adding: "If the chargers are full when you get there, guess what, you're waiting."

The TikToker also pointed out the $10 AUD (£5.60/$6.70) subscription charge necessary to gain access to YouTube, Disney+ and Netflix while inside the car.

Erwin's comments received mixed responses from viewers, with some indicating that his revelations had put them off getting a Tesla while others said he should have done more research into the car before buying it.

"imagine buying a car & wondering why shell was charging you for fuel...," one person responded, adding: "why wouldn't it cost to charge the car? I'd pay $30 to charge over $100 petrol."

Another commented: "Sunroof with no cover is a deal breaker for me."

However, Erwin acknowledged that the Tesla wasn't all bad as he went on to list some 'good things' about the model, including its built-in storage compartments, a designated phone charging area, USB-C ports and the ability to see around all sides of the car using built-in cameras.

He said the downsides of the electric car had made him consider returning to a petrol powered car, but said he might change his mind if Elon Musk 'inboxes [him] and gives [him] a model X'.
