When a man submits an application to make sex an official sport in Sweden, you have to take your hat off to him.
What better way to 'destigmatize' the topic of sex in society than to make people earn a gold medal for it?
Saying that, perhaps a performance-based approach to something so intimate, might create a whole new debate.

Anyway, this dude called Dragan Bratic is the owner of several strip clubs in the country’s Jönköping area. He was eager for people to use sex to train, which isn't the craziest idea since it does burn a lot of calories.
Bratic highlighted the importance of the physical and mental impact sex has on human beings on a daily basis.
So back in January, he applied to enrol the association as a member of the country’s National Sports Confederation.

"We are registered, have an organisation number and it’s perfectly okay to train and compete in sex, then it’s a sport like any other," Bratic told P4 Jönköping.
"The incorporation of sexual orientation as a part of sporting tactics will be a ground-breaking development among European countries."
Bratic, along with the The Swedish Sex Federation, called for the nation to host a ‘six-week sex championship’, which would include six disciplines, such as seduction, body massages, foreplay, oral sex, and endurance.

Couples would also be judged on creativity during sex, artistic communication and sexual positions.
20 people from different countries would participate in the competition, while a panel of three judges will decide the championship winners.
Contestants would be judged on several aspects of sexual activity and the final decision will depend on several factors, like the chemistry between the couple, knowledge about sex, endurance level.

Reports have also suggested that any couples with knowledge of ‘Kamasutra’ – the ancient Indian scripture on sex and eroticism – would receive bonus points.
The competition would demand six-hour sessions per day, with individual matches lasting 45 to 60 minutes.
However, quite sadly, the National Sports Confederation rejected the application in April.
Björn Eriksson, who was then the chief of the sports body, said: “It [The application] doesn’t meet our requirements and I can inform you that this application has been rejected. We have other things to do."

Now, commenting on the sports-like aspect of sex, Dr. Maryanne Fisher said: "Unlike bowling, though, sex can also increase self-esteem, cardio-vascular health, emotional intimacy, improve sleeping and increase immunity."
