A woman was left gobsmacked when an egg 'exploded' in her very own kitchen after she'd microwaved it.
It almost sounds a bit too wild to believe, but cutting an egg can actually lead to a very eggy explosion.
Yep, best get your goggles and lab aprons on, because some people on social media have been engaging in a hot new viral trend.

This is definitely one way to make things a little more wild in the kitchen... Take a look at this:
One clip that has started doing the rounds on YouTube has people both eager to try the unorthodox cooking method, as well as being terrified of the results.
This clip in question appears to show a woman trying to cut what appears to be a hard-boiled egg with a knife, while people off camera watch her slice it.

However, like clockwork, the egg explodes, causing the woman to drop the knife and jump back in surprise.
Hilarity then ensues with the people off-camera laughing like hyenas while the woman looks puzzled as she is covered in egg residue.
“Thats too dangerous No,” one user wrote.
“I've had that happen to me...scared the s*** out of me!!!!!!” another fearful user wrote.

On another video that has been spreading around TikTok a user wrote: “This happened to me in my mouth,”
“That was an angry egg,” joked another.
“That’s one of the many reasons why you don’t cook eggs in the microwave,”
So what is happening? Is this the egg’s getting their final revenge after all these centuries of humans having a bite. No, that would be ludicrous, would make for a terrible movie though.

The science behind what is actually happening has long been documented.
A 2017 report that was published by the Acoustical Society of America explored just what happens when you microwave a hard-boiled egg and prod it, and the results prove exactly why you shouldn't be trying this at home.
After microwaving nearly 100 eggs, researchers discovered that the yolk of a reheated hard-boiled egg could reach temperatures as high as 212 degrees Fahrenheit — the boiling point of water.

When you cook an egg, tiny pockets of water form as the proteins inside the yolk clump together, if the egg is reheated and the temperature of the yolk skyrockets, those tiny pockets of water can start to boil, leading to a big boom.
So maybe it goes without saying that microwaving eggs isn't the best - or safest - way to cook them!
