Mystery of strange creature caught on camera that baffled entire city has never been solved

The creepy picture was captured on security cameras at Amarillo Zoo and sparked some wild theories

Zoo staff were left baffled after security footage showed an unknown creature walking around.

In 2022, Amarillo Zoo, Texas, was the talk of the town after it shared unusual CCTV footage of an odd figure walking around in the early hours of the morning.

Sharing a snap of the werewolf-like creature, the zoo penned on X at the time: "The Amarillo Zoo captured a strange image outside the zoo in the dark and early morning hours of May 21 (around 1:25 a.m.).

"Is it a person with a strange hat who likes to walk at night? A chupacabra? Do you have any ideas of what this UAO- Unidentified Amarillo Object could be?"

Elsewhere, Michael Kashuba, director of Parks and Recreation with the City of Amarillo, said to News Channel 10: "We’d love to hear feedback from the community on what they think it might be. It’s a very unique picture, and we’re excited to see what the community thinks."

Noting people's speculation about if it was a fake picture or not, Kashuba added: "The photo is absolutely real."

The image sparked a series of suggestions at the time - and some were pretty entertaining.

One X user insisted that it was Rocket from Guardians of the Galaxy in the now-viral snap, while another person said it could be Sasquatch.

Someone else said: "That’s Gnorm from the 1990 movie A Gnome Named Gnorm!!"

"Clearly a Skinwalker phasing between two densities/dimensions and what better place but the Zoo. I mean. DUH," wrote another.

Personally I think it looks like the werewolf from Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.

Someone else urged the zoo to release video footage of creature to they could 'see how it moves'.

But the zoo replied to the inquisitive individual: "This image was taken from a camera that only shoots a still image when it detects motion."

Nearly two years on from the ordeal and it seems to still be a mystery as to just what was lurking around the zoo that night.

Surveillance footage is always capturing unusual things moving around in the dead of night. More recently, a pretty horrific-looking 'monster' was seen roaming the streets of Costa Rica.

In December, a Reddit clip was doing the rounds on X where an eerie four-legged creature could be seen crawling along as two dogs barked at it.

The video very quickly went viral, with some suggesting that the dark figure was some kind of shapeshifter...
