A magician has revealed how to safely perform a dangerous trick.
If you've ever watched someone carrying out a sword-swallowing performance, you must inevitably have wondered how they could achieve such a feat without slicing open their own throat from the inside.
It turns out that there is in fact a very important aspect of the magic trick which makes sure that it is safe to perform.

And no, it's not that the sword is fake, or telescopic. The sword itself is in fact all too real.
Needless to say, please do not attempt this at home if you are not a trained professional.
Even with the precautions in place, it's still a mightily impressive thing to pull off, and could be very dangerous if you don't know what you're doing.

So how exactly do people manage to pull this off without eviscerating their own insides?
It's a lot simpler than you might think.
Thing is, they don't just swallow the sword before coming on stage, they've actually done some prep work to make sure they'll be safe.

It's perfectly simple. They don't just swallow the sword, they swallow the sheath first.
That way they can just put the sword into the sheath which is already down their throat.
Stop giggling, so immature.
Well that makes it a whole lot less impressive, just casually swallowing a scabbard like it's nothing.

I am, of course, joking. If anything the 'secret behind the trick' makes it even more impressive.
There's also the small matter of how on earth the magician managed to talk normally while carrying a foot and a half long scabbard in his oesophagus.
And also, what happens if the scabbard gets stuck?

People took to the comments to share how this only made them even more in awe of the trick.
One wrote "Ah, now I am sure I can swallow a sword, just have to swallow the sheath first. Here I have been doing it all wrong."
A second posted: “'Magician reveals magic trick' and it’s just him just being built different."
Others pointed out the obvious feat of how he managed to speak so clearly without giving the game away.
One wrote: "How can he even talk with that thing in there?"
Another posted: "The fact that he had the sheath in his throat and he was talking like regular is insane itself."
And just to reiterate - please do not try this at home.
