School responds after viral video of students licking each other's feet at fundraising event

Despite backlash, the Deer Creek School District claimed it's students raised a whopping sum for charity.

A school has responded after footage caught various students licking each other’s feet in the name of charity.

When it comes to fundraising, many opt to run gruelling marathons, others host extravagant events and some auction off sought-after memorabilia.

However, one US high school decided for their ‘Wonderful Week of Fundraising’, they’d do something different to raise moolah for Not Your Average Joe Coffee.

The latter is a nonprofit Oklahoma-based coffee shop which helps to employ students and adults with intellectual, developmental and physical disabilities.

But instead of fundraising by traditional methods, these Edmond-based kids decided to do it by kicking off their shoes and having another student lick their feet.

Teens participated in the 'foot licking' fundraiser to make money for charity.

Footage of the event was sent to FOX 25, which showed Deer Creek High School teens ‘kissing and sucking’ on the feet of other.

Following the initial video being posted to social media, viewers came out in their droves to slam the school.

One user of X, formerly Twitter, wrote: “What fresh hell is this?? This is beyond degrading!!”

“When I was in high school, we sold candy to raise money,” commented a second viewer.

Another typed: “Disgusting and who chose to have kids engage in this for a fundraiser? These teachers and or administrators are sick for approving this!!!!”

“Apparently this was teen on teen sucking and licking feet and that makes it ok,” said a fourth. “People are crazy. No faculty was involved is what I’m reading in her report.”

The school district said no staff 'participated' in the Clash of Classes assembly.

After the clip went viral, the Deer Creek School District released a statement and clarified what exactly was going on in the video.

The district said that on February 29, Deer Creek High School hosted an assembly called ‘Clash of Classes’.

Students in various grades allegedly volunteered to participate in ‘student-organised class competitions’ in a bid to raise money for Not Your Average Joe Coffee.

“All participants in the assembly were students who signed up for the game(s) they played ahead of time,” the school district’s statement read.

“No Deer Creek faculty or staff participated in any of the games during this Clash of Classes assembly.”

The district also said students were paired up with corresponding grade levels for the competition.

The weird event managed to raise a staggering $152,830.38 (£120,747.71) for NYAJC - a feat the district described as a ‘momentous accomplishment’.

“Many dedicated students gave generously of their personal time to achieve this momentous accomplishment, which will serve communities beyond the boundaries of Deer Creek.”

“We would like to thank all of the patrons, businesses and sponsors who contributed to the success of this year’s Wonderful Week of Fundraising."
