YouTuber legally dies in order to get $50 refund from airline and explains how he did it

He went through all the stress of 'dying' for the sake of getting back just 50 bucks

A YouTuber went above and beyond to get a refund from an airline, which saw him legally 'die'.

There's nothing worse than you missing your flight (for whatever reason that might be) and not getting your money back.

There are several airlines that offer refundable tickets, but many don't; something YouTuber Max Fosh learned the hard way.

In a new video shared to his channel, Max explained that two months ago, he booked a flight that he later couldn't go on.

With this in mind, the contacted the airline — whom he did not name following advice from his lawyer — to get a refund. It's then that he found out that his particular airline only gives cash refunds if someone has died. But, instead of just taking the £37 hit (which comes to around $50), Max tasked himself with getting his money back.

How? By getting himself legally declared dead.

To do this, Max traveled to the principality of Seborga in Italy and managed to convince Princess Nina Menegatto to sign a one-off death certificate declaring him dead (as he sat next to her).

He proceeded to submit the certificate to the airline as part of his refund request and Max went on to be granted his refund.

The YouTuber was strongly advised not to cash the check, however.

"I thought I'd check with the lawyer from the Maxwash channel who helps me with different videos like this and well— he, under no circumstance, said I really shouldn't do this," Max shared.

"Because it's my money that's being given back to me, it's not fraud," he further explained. "[The lawyer] has basically told me off and said that I must not claim the money."

The content creator went on to warn viewers not to try this hack for themselves and proceeded to play a clip from a phone call he had with the lawyer.

"Normally I would let you, but this time I really have to put my foot down," Max's legal advisor is heard saying on the other end of the phone.

While he was successfully offered a refund as he'd hoped, there's a good chance he paid more than $50 to fly to Italy to get the death certificate, meaning he may have been left out of pocket anyway...
