50 Cent blasts the Grammys over Bad Bunny performance subtitles

Viewers also criticised the lack of subtitles during Bad Bunny's performance at Sunday's Grammy Awards ceremony.

50 Cent has criticised the Grammys for failing to provide subtitles during Bad Bunny’s performance.

The latin trap and reggaeton artist took to the stage on Sunday (5 February) at the Crypto.com arena in Los Angeles.

While the audience in attendance were able to enjoy the performance, viewers at home were left annoyed when the broadcast failed to provide adequate subtitles in Spanish.

Fans quickly took to Twitter during Bad Bunny’s performance of his songs 'El Apagón' and 'Después de la Playa' and called the subtitles 'ignorant' and 'insulting'.

The closed captions on screen read “[SPEAKING NON-ENGLISH]” and "[SINGING IN NON-ENGLISH]”.

And it turns out the ‘In Da Club’ rapper was also among those who missed out on enjoying Bad Bunny’s show and he made his concerns heard on social media.

“The Grammys need to be check about this, F------ @badbunnypr bigger than everybody right now and you can’t pay for closed caption,” the rapper wrote on Instagram alongside a picture of the closed captions.

"Wtf is this speaking Non-English. FIX IT ! #bransoncognac #lecheminduroi.”

According to Variety, closed captioned Spanish subtitles were added to Bad Bunny's performance when the Grammys re-aired on the West Coast and in replays of the ceremony on Paramount+ after the reaction online.

UNILAD has contacted CBS for comment.

However, the subtitles fiasco soon became a meme on social media after the performance.

Music streaming service Spotify created a playlist called ‘[speaking non-english]’ consisting of songs by Bad Bunny and Taylor Swift.

A picture of both musicians posing together at this year’s Grammys was used as the cover and the playlist already has 97,000 likes.

Spotify has a brand new playlist inspired by the subtitles.

Meanwhile, Bad Bunny also gave a cheeky nod to the closed captions situation in his Instagram post following the ceremony.

The chart-topping singer and rapper uploaded an Instagram Carousel which includes a selfie from inside a Royals Royce, the picture with the ‘Lavender Haze’ singer used by Spotify, a picture of him accepting his shiny new Grammy and the subtitles from the show.

"The most beautiful word that exists is: Thank you," he wrote in Spanish. "I am grateful to God, to life, to the love I receive. "Grateful to be able to live moments that I never imagined. Grateful for the people who truly love me, those who genuinely support me, those who understand me and those who don’t too."

"Grateful to be able to do what I love the most, MUSIC. I feel happy, I feel proud of myself and for that I give THANKS," he continued.
