As Better Call Saul heads for its grand finale, the spin-off series has finally come full circle with the next episode, titled 'Breaking Bad'.
Back in 2015 when the first season of Better Call Saul was about to be released there were plenty of doubters.
Breaking Bad was one of the greatest shows on TV, so how could a prequel spin-off about the lawyer measure up to the incredible story of a high school teacher's transformation into a criminal kingpin?

Since then, plenty of fears have been allayed as Better Call Saul proved itself to be an excellent prequel to Breaking Bad by fleshing out the intricate criminal world Walter White would step into, while also telling its own story about Saul Goodman's origins as Jimmy McGill (Bob Odenkirk).
Now with just a handful of episodes left to go, the show has come full circle as the next episode is titled 'Breaking Bad', seemingly telling us we're going to see Walt and Jesse one more time.
We've known for a while that Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul would be making an appearance in the final season of Better Call Saul.

With an episode title like 'Breaking Bad' surely that means this is it – they wouldn't tease fans with an episode called 'Breaking Bad' if they don't intend to give us the stars of Breaking Bad, would they?
The episode description tells us 'the partners escalate their enterprise to new levels', but while that could refer to Walt and Jesse it might also mean Jimmy's new criminal crew set up with taxi driver Jeff (Pat Healy).
Jimmy, still living out his life in Nebraska as Gene Takovic, concocted a criminal scheme to get leverage back on Jeff after the taxi driver recognised him from Breaking Bad days.
While it was only supposed to get Jeff off his back and show him how to 'get into the game' as a criminal, it might be harder for Jimmy to stay out of trouble than he was hoping.

As for what role Walt and Jesse might play if they really are in the next episode, it'll surely have to be a flashback to the Breaking Bad days.
As for Walt and Jesse, last time we saw Walter White he was lying – presumed dead – on the floor of a meth lab in a neo-Nazi compound, having wiped out the gang that had taken Jesse prisoner but taken a bullet himself.
Jesse, meanwhile, got a grand goodbye of his own in the movie El Camino where he managed to get his hands on enough money to escape to Alaska and leave the criminal life for good.

Whatever role they have to play in Better Call Saul could be the last time we see either of them, especially since they're getting a bit old for the roles.
Aaron Paul in particular might struggle to play a convincingly young Jesse given that he's now 42.
The final season of Better Call Saul continues on AMC in the US and Netflix in the UK.
