Star of action fiction series Daredevil, Charlie Cox has revealed the 'one thing' which could see his character split up with Elektra.

The Marvel Netflix series, which first began in 2015, sees blind protagonist Matt Murdock (Cox) fight criminals not only in his role as a lawyer, but as masked vigilante Daredevil.

However, in the second season, Murdock is joined by assassin Elektra Natchios (Elodie Yung), and the two become embroiled in a turbulent romantic relationship.

While Elektra has been killed off twice within the series - resurrected from her first death by supervillain organisation The Hand - if the character was revived yet again, Cox has explained that there is only one thing which he thinks could cause Murdock and Elektra to permanently end their complex entanglement.

Elektra first fell in love with Murdock when trying to get him to join ancient organisation The Chaste, which was formed in opposition to The Hand.

Despite their infatuation with one another, the pair were left in a sticky situation because of holding opposing views on violence and mortality, leading to a fairly toxic relationship.

However, Elektra did sacrifice herself to save Murdock at the end of season two, leaving the blind lawyer and vigilante mourning her in season three.

In an interview with Comic Book, Cox joked that in order to stick with an age certificate rating of PG-13, which allows for the word 'f***' to be used one time and one time only, that Elektra would probably be the character to use it, but that it's also the aspect of her character which could see her relationship with Murdock reach breaking point.

He said: 'She's beaten him up, she's trying to kill him, she's got him arrested, she's done all sorts of things and he's always forgiven her, but she swears and he's like, "That's it, it's over."

'That he will not take.'

Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner first brought the characters of Daredevil and Elektra to life on the big screen in 2003.

However, Cox's Daredevil has since made a cameo appearance in last year's Spider-Man: No Way Home, after president of Marvel studios Kevin Feige confirmed that the actor would be cast in the role in any upcoming adaptations. He featured as Peter Parker's lawyer.

Daredevil's future in the MCU was initially left in the balance after the Defenders universe was cancelled when Disney and Marvel Studios ceased their relationship with ABC and Netflix.

However, on March 16, 2022, every season of Daredevil, alongside The Defenders, Jessica Jones, The Punisher, Luke Cage, Iron Fist and Agents of Shield, are set to be made available on Disney+.

Daredevil's MCU future also looks more promising because of Disney+'s decision to alter its parental settings to work with the TV-MA superheroes.
