The former WWE wrestler has expressed his disappointment about Cavill's exit from the DCU, during a candid interview at the Oscars.

Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson has opened up about Henry Cavill’s exit from the DC Universe.

The former WWE wrestler had hoped to rebuild the DCU with Cavill as Superman, but sadly both actors got ousted from the franchise during James Gunn’s shake up.

In a candid moment during the Oscars, Johnson expressed his frustration about how the messy saga played out and compared Cavill to a championship quarterback.

Back in 2022, Johnson starred in the highly anticipated Black Adam, with Cavill making his first appearance since 2017's Justice League.

Although Cavil only had a cameo, fans were insanely excited about the prospect of him returning and the actor confirm this in an Instagram post.

During the heartfelt post, he even thanked fans for the patience and promised them that they would be rewarded as the actor teased future films.

Less than two months later thought, Warner Brother would abruptly pulling the plug as James Gunn announced a major shake-up in the DCU - replacing both Cavill and Johnson.

Speaking at last weekend’s Oscars, Johnson told Variety about how frustrating the saga had been and was clearly disheartened during the candid interview.

The 50-year-old told fans that the cast and crew had put their ‘best foot forward’ during filming and had tried to ‘deliver the best movie’ they could before the Warner Brothers U-turn.

He also spoken about his co-star, saying: “It’s almost like when you have a pro football team and your quarterback win championships and your head coach win championships and then a new owner comes in and says ‘Not my coach, not my quarterback. I’m going to go with somebody new.’”

Henry Cavill had excitedly told fans about his return.

It's been a rough few months for Cavill, who also recently exited Netflix's The Witcher.

Geralt had been a dream role for the Brit, who told press in 2019: "For me it is more like an extraordinary opportunity to live my childhood and adult life fantasies."

Despite sacrificing the role of a lifetime, Cavill isn’t bitter and even wished his replacement Liam Hemsworth well.

In a touching Instagram post, he wrote: “Liam, good sir, this character has such a wonderful depth to him, enjoy diving in and seeing what you can find."

However, fans of Henry Cavil shouldn’t despair as the actor is currently working with Guy Ritchie on a new film which will be released late next year.
