Colin Farrell has already garnered praise for his portrayal of The Penguin in 2022’s The Batman, and many are excited to see him be the focal point of upcoming series The Penguin.
However, despite being honored to be playing the role, Farrell was less than thrilled by the time filming on the MAX series concluded.
Farrell, the 48-year-old Irish star of The Penguin, explained in a recent interview with TotalFilm that he isn’t sure if he’s ready to reappear in a second season of the series in the event that it gets renewed.

“I don’t know, man," Farrell admitted when asked about doing a season 2 of the upcoming show, “Don't get me wrong – I loved it – but it got in on me a little bit.
"By the end of it, I was b****ing and moaning to anyone who would listen to me that I f**king wanted it to be finished.”
While the Max series, which is poised to air on the streaming service on September 19, is not the first time Farrell appeared as Oz Cobblepot, one must assume that his debut as a side character in the 2022 Batman film was far less demanding than being the star of a series set to feature eight 60-minute episodes.

Despite his unhappiness, Farrell noted that he was still eternally grateful for his role in the series, stating: “I tried to remind them that I had 'grumpy gratitude'.
"I was still grateful, and still honored – I grew up watching Burgess Meredith and then Danny DeVito was my Penguin.
"Being a part of the lineage of that storytelling, I really did feel privileged.”
In the series, Farrell wears prosthetic makeup and a fatsuit to capture an authentic version of The Penguin, who has been designed to be a heavy-set man in most iterations of the character.

These modifications are believed to be one part of why filming was difficult for Farrell, as he later went on to say: “When I finished I was like, 'I never want to put that f***ing suit and that f***ing head on again.”
However, for those clamoring to see more of Farrell as The Penguin following the end of The Penguin, not only is the Irishman set to reprise his role in The Batman 2 in 2026, but he also admitted that he isn’t completely opposed to doing a season two of his upcoming show.
“Lauren said, 'Look, if I could find a way that makes sense, would you talk about it?' And I said, 'Absolutely.' And maybe in a year I would,” Farrell added.
