Fast X director says they were worried about destroying the Colosseum during filming

Louis Leterrier says they went to extreme lengths to raise the bar for the tenth film.

Fast X director has revealed that they were worried about damaging the Colosseum during filming.

With the tenth Fast & Furious film on the horizon, Louis Leterrier (Clash of the Titans and Now You See Me) said he wanted to raise the bar for the next instalment.

However, during his efforts, Leterrier was concerned about ruining Rome’s ancient oval amphitheater.

He told Esquire Middle East: “You need to step it up. What I wanted to do on this one, because it’s very much my style, was to ground it more in reality. I wanted to–no pun intended—land it back on Earth.

“They went into pace in number nine, and I was like, ‘okay, they went to space, there’s no way I can top that.’

“But what I can do is do stuff that we’ve never done before practically, such as rolling a one-ton bomb—an actual one ton metal ball in the streets of Rome, and hope not to destroy the Colosseum.”

Yikes, that would’ve been a hefty fine - they might have to spend all the earnings from F9.

Leterrier also recalled how he was asked with very little notice to direct one of the biggest franchises of all time.

The filmmaker revealed he got a call in the middle of the night.

However, he thought it was a butt-dial and rescheduled the phone call for the next day.

But Universal Pictures assured him there was no mistake.

Leterrier said after receiving the phone call; self-doubt began to creep in.

He added: “I had a moment of panic. And my wife saw my face. I was literally white as a sheet. She asked, ‘What, are you hesitating? No! You’ve been dreaming of this! Go do it!’”

The trailer for Fast X was recently released and fans were hyped at the first look at Jason Momoa and Brie Larson being introduced into the franchise, as well as Vin Diesel's return.

One person wrote: “I got chills when they said family more than once. Cause that's what it's all about.”

Another said: “Love that they've brought back the concepts that made us love these movies.”

While a third shared: “Jason Momoa is the best cast as villain! Absolutely loved it.”

Fast X is scheduled to be released May 19, 2023.
