Greta Gerwig refused to cut an emotional scene from Barbie despite studio executives asking her to do so.
The hottest movie of the summer has finally hit theaters across the world and one scene in particular has made cinemagoers teary eyed.
Barbie stars The Wolf of Wall Street’s Margot Robbie as the titular doll alongside Ryan Gosling's Ken.
After being booted out of Barbieland for being a less than perfect-looking doll, Barbie sets off for a brand new adventure in the human world to find true happiness.

The Academy Award-nominated director revealed that it was suggested she remove a scene where Barbie meets an elderly woman on a bench and tells her she’s beautiful.
“I love that scene so much,” Gerwig told Rolling Stone.
“And the older woman on the bench is the costume designer Ann Roth. She’s a legend. It’s a cul-de-sac of a moment, in a way - it doesn’t lead anywhere.
"And in early cuts, looking at the movie, it was suggested, ‘Well, you could cut it. And actually, the story would move on just the same.’ And I said, ‘If I cut the scene, I don’t know what this movie is about.'”

In another interview, Gerwig called the scene a ‘transaction of grace’ and is vital to understand how the living doll perceives the human world.
“The idea of a loving God who’s a mother, a grandmother - who looks at you and says, ‘Honey, you’re doing ok’ - is something I feel like I need and I wanted to give to other people,” Gerwig told The New York Times.
“If I cut that scene, I don’t know why I’m making this movie,” the director added. “If I don’t have that scene, I don’t know what it is or what I’ve done.”

Another scene that has captured the hearts of the public involves Robbie's feet.
The internet was sent into a frenzy when the official trailer dropped, featuring a viral scene which showed the Australian actor's Barbie-fied, permanently high heel-shaped feet.
Addressing the fixation in an interview with CinemaBlend, Robbie said: "The very first time I Googled myself, you know how when you type something into Google and it predicts what the rest of it is going to be?

“I’d started working and I was on some things and I hadn’t Googled myself before, and so I wrote in ‘Margot Robbie’ and before I finished writing ‘Robbie,’ ‘Margot Robbie feet’ came up.”
She continued: “I clicked on it and realized that there were pictures zoomed in on my feet and people were writing about them and someone had made a video compilation of footage of my feet and I was like, ‘oh wow, this is like a thing. I didn’t realize.”
The actor said that she is ‘really flattered that people are excited about my feet’.
Barbie is in cinemas now.
