No Time To Die actor Lashana Lynch has swapped spying for teaching as she stars as Miss Honey in the remake of the beloved children's film Matilda.

Fans of the 1996 film directed by Danny DeVito might find it hard to imagine it could be topped, but the new version is set to put a musical spin on things as it adapts the award-winning stage show.

A new trailer released today (15 June) offers the first look at what we might be able to expect from the magical story, which also stars Emma Thompson as Miss Trunchbull and Alisha Weir in the starring role of Matilda.

Just like Bruce Bogtrotter got his fill of chocolate cake, you can get your fill of the trailer here:

The musical adaptation of Matilda is set to be released on Netflix and in cinemas this year and will once again tell the story of the intelligent, book-loving young girl who discovers she has magical powers.

Miss Honey provides a welcome break not only from the terrifying wrath of headteacher Miss Trunchbull, but of the controversial parenting skills of Matilda's carers, played in the new film by Andrea Riseborough and Stephen Graham.

Director Matthew Warchus, who directed the musical both in London and on Broadway, has promised the Netflix version will be an 'imaginative and fresh retelling of the award-winning musical'.

It is set to feature 'talented young newcomers, alongside established stars', the director told Variety, adding: "I look forward to introducing this beloved and powerful story to a new generation of fans around the world."

Though not all fans are convinced about the news of the remake, many have praised the casting of Lynch as Miss Honey following her previous roles as Maria Rambeau in the superhero film Captain Marvel and Nomi in the James Bond film No Time To Die.

One fan commented: "Lashana Lynch is actually such perfect casting for miss honey in the new Matilda movie like wow."

Another wrote: "They're making a Matilda the Musical movie with Emma Thompson as Ms Trunchbull and Lashana Lynch as Miss Honey?!??!!! THANK YOU NETFLIX"

The script for the musical version of Matilda has been adapted for the screen by Dennis Kelly and features music and lyrics by Tim Minchin, who is also behind the stage music.

The film will be distributed worldwide by Netflix, however in the UK TriStar pictures will release Matilda in theatres.
