James Gunn has rubbished suggestions that he has ‘booted’ Gal Gadot from the next Wonder Woman movie, despite the fact that a third Wonder Woman film was recently cancelled.
It’s been a period of some upheaval in the DC Extended Universe since Gunn and Peter Safran were hired as the co-chair and CEO of DC Studios.
To be fair, they have a tough job as one of the biggest comic book film franchises in the world, and whilst they’ve had recent success with Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson’s Black Adam, there have also been some pretty seismic changes.

For example, Henry Cavill is not going to be returning as Superman.
More on that later, though.
This Monday, the Guardians of the Galaxy director set the record straight about what has happened with Gal Gadot and Wonder Woman, reacting to responses to his appointment at DC which he described as ‘uproarious and unkind’.

One of those responses said that the ‘the move to boot Cavill and Gadot (especially after they’d announced their return) doesn’t inspire confidence'.
Gunn hit back: “I’m not sure where you’re getting that we ‘booted’ Gal.”
Just days before that, Gadot had put out a message saying how pleased she was about the ‘next chapter’ of her character.
Two days later, it was cancelled.

Whilst he may not have ‘booted’ Gadot from Wonder Woman, Gunn did get rid of Cavill as Superman, it would seem.
Cavill confirmed the news, as well as the speculation that the decision wasn’t his, on Instagram, writing: “I will, after all, not be returning as Superman.
“After being told by the studio to announce my return back in October, prior to their hire, this news isn’t the easiest, but that’s life.”
It’s not the only big role that Cavill has left recently, having decided to step away from Netflix blockbuster series The Witcher in October.

Don’t worry though, because fans of Geralt of Rivia will be able to see Liam Hemsworth grunting his way around the continent carrying a big sword in the fourth season of the fantasy show.
Oh, and there’s still a whole season with Cavill yet to come as well.
Gunn has recently been forced to deny speculation that he simply doesn’t like Cavill, which could have been why he’s been told that he’ll not be playing Superman again.

Cavill actually turned up as Superman during Black Adam earlier on in the year, so it’s all been quite fast to reach this point.
When asked to respond to claims that he simply doesn’t get on with Cavill, Gunn wrote: “Sure: false.”
On Twitter, he has also claimed that getting Superman back onto the silver screen is a ‘huge priority, if not the biggest priority’ for DC.
We’ll just have to see who is given the blue and red suit when the time arrives.
