JK Simmons Hints He'll Return In Further Spider-Man Films

Simmons returned as J. Jonah Jameson in Spider-Man: Far From Home and No Way Home - but he's not done yet.

It looks like J. Jonah Jameson isn't going anywhere - after 20 years, J.K. Simmons still wants pictures of Spider-Man.

Simmons made his big-screen debut as The Daily Bugle's cigar-puffing, cantankerous editor back in 2002, with Tobey Maguire's first outing as the friendly neighbourhood webhead. Of all the 'perfect casting' in comic book movies, he's arguably the supreme example.

After Sam Raimi's original trilogy came to a close in 2007, fans thought they'd seen the last of the actor's indelible turn. Yet, in Far From Home, a post-credits stinger made our dreams come true: Simmons returned as Jameson with an InfoWars-esque twist, ranting and raving on his own talk show.

The Oscar-winner returned once more in No Way Home - albeit briefly - relishing Spider-Man's secret identity being revealed. While the end of the movie takes care of that, the MCU's Jameson still believes Spidey to be a menace, and wherever we go with Tom Holland's hero, it looks like he'll be there beside him (or screaming into the void of his vlog).

Speaking to Deadline after his Academy Award nomination for Being the Ricardos, Simmons also said he was surprised to be given another go at playing Jameson after so much time had passed.

'Total shock. Truly, initially, because I figured we did the Sam Raimi trilogy, it was brilliant, it was great, it was wonderful, and then they moved on. I thought, that was great, and bye-bye. And here I'm back. And Sam is back in the Marvel universe as well with [Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness]. It's beautiful,' he said.

It's been a joy to see him as Jameson again, and even with the status of Holland's web-slinging tenure uncertain, Simmons wants to come back. 'I think I'm going to be in more. So, fingers crossed,' he added.

Holland recently said there's been conversations between him, Amy Pascal and Kevin Feige about 'the potential future of Spider-Man, but at the moment they are conversations. We don't know what the future looks like.'

Speaking to CinePOP, he revealed he plans to take a break after finishing work on Apple TV's The Crowded Room. 'I am going back to shoot a TV show for Apple, which I'm really excited about... but I can confidently say that after I finish that TV show, I will be taking a break,' he said.
