Harrison Ford has opened up about his upcoming Marvel movie and what it was like filming it.

The acclaimed actor stars as Thaddeus 'Thunderbolt' Ross (AKA Red Hulk) in Captain America: Brave New World, which is set to hit cinemas next year.

The role was previously portrayed by William Hurt, who starred in five Marvel movies over the years, but Ford was cast as the role following Hurt's passing in 2022.

The actor was 71 at the time of his death. He'd been diagnosed with cancer in 2018.

Speaking about following Hurt's portrayal of Ross, Ford, 82, said at the recent San Diego Comic-Con: "He laid a very firm foundation for the character, I respect him enormously in the work that he did in his lifetime.

"God bless his soul. I'm delighted to be able to stand on his shoulders and continue playing the character."

While at Comic-Con, Ford also chatted with Variety where he discussed the motion capture process required for the 82-year-old to transform into Red Hulk.

"What did it take? It took not caring," he said. "It took being an idiot for money, which I’ve done before."

Ford quickly added that he didn't mean to 'disparage' the movie with his remark.

"I’m just saying you have to do certain things that normally your mother would not want you to do - or your acting coach, if you had one," he told the publication.

"But it’s fun, and I enjoyed it. I had a great time, and I’m delighted at the response that we got with the trailer."

Ford stars in Captain America: Brave New World alongside MCU alum Anthony Mackie.

Mackie has long played Sam Wilson in the franchise - AKA The Falcon.

But The Falcon has now taken the reigns from Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) as Captain America, something which was first seen in Marvel spin-off series, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

Speaking about it's like working with Hollywood veteran Ford, Mackie gushed to Inverse last year: "He’s Harrison f**king Ford. There is this aura about him. But he dispels that really quickly because he’s such a cool guy.

"He’s everything a movie star should be. He would say, 'Let’s shoot this piece of s**t.' And everybody was like, 'Yeah, let’s shoot this s**t.'"

Captain America: Brave New World is scheduled for release on February 14, 2025.
