Jackman's character appears to be a variant of Wolverine - with Succession star Matthew Macfadyen saying he was a 'different' Wolverine who tried and failed to save his world.
The trailer was FULL of references, whether it be a giant Ant-Man head, a throwback to Jackman's iconic cameo scene from X-Men: First Class, or Deadpool directly addressing Kevin Feige in a pointed joke about cocaine.
Add to that the fact that there was a Dr Strange portal shown - it seems this trailer only gives a hint as to how insane this film is going to be.
The trailer also gave us the first look at the likely villain of the film, Emma Corrin as Cassandra Nova.

Deadpool appears at points more serious than he has ever been in the films, insisting Jackman's Wolverine come with him in order to help save his world.
