The cooking contestant really failed to leave a good impression on the judges after making a rather rookie blunder.
If you somehow have never watched MasterChef: The professionals, it works similar to most other cooking shows, professional chefs going head-to-head to impress the judges.
Now, let’s remember that little detail, *professional chefs* taking part in the British cooking reality TV show.
But back in 2021, one contestant would fail to make a good enough impression when it came to his cooking.
Chef Nic knew he was done before the judges even said a word(BBC) That said, he did manage to make the judges smile and keep them entertained but seemingly let them down on his dish, which resulted in a lot of criticism as many consider it simply ‘unacceptable’.
For the 2021 edition of the show, Chef Nic was one of 32 contestants hoping to impress tough judges Gregg Wallace, Monica Galetti and Marcus Wareing.
For the judges' tastes, Nic couldn’t quite get his chicken right (or many of his other ingredients on the dish for that matter) and was pretty much left with egg on his face.
Greg and Marcus admitted that Nic’s commentary, while he was cooking, was amusing but remarked that he probably should have spent more time focusing on his dish.
Nic ended up serving his chicken raw and social media users were pretty harsh on the then 36-year-old chef.
One annoyed fan wrote: “I know there’s pressure and all, but is it acceptable for professional chefs to serve up raw chicken?”
With another simply writing: “Nic really needs to be out on his ear. How did he ever get through the heats?"
The judges decided against trying Nic's dish (BBC) A third said: “This fella on MasterChef is something else. Imagine serving up raw chicken.”
The judges echoed these comments as they refused to give the dish a taste.
They said: “You’ve got a great personality, Nic, there’s no two ways about that.
“But you really do need to get your head down and get focused.”
Nic didn’t shy away from his mistakes either and said: “I should have shut up and focused on the food a little bit more.
“I’m here to cook, I’m not here to entertain. I think the excitement and nerves got the better of me.”
Nic did admit that while his experience on the show had been less than ideal and 'peppered with disappointment', he still found a way to love every minute.
Great to see him have a positive attitude in the kitchen when things didn't exactly go to plan.
