Despite being known for her upbeat personality, McCarthy revealed that she really struggled on set due to the ‘hostile conditions’.
The Bridesmaids star made the shocking claims during an interview with The Observer, saying that things became so bad that she felt ‘physically ill’.
"I did work for someone once who ran such a volatile, hostile set that it made me physically ill,” she confessed, “My eyes were swelling up, I was absorbing all of this nuttiness."

However, worse was yet to come for the 52-year-old as the set became even more tense as filming progressed.
Though she didn’t confirm which set this occurred on, she did reveal that one person had been behind the bulk of her frustrations on set.
She added: "There were people weeping, visibly so upset by this one person.
"And I think that’s why the manipulation worked, because to get to me, this person would fire people I loved, which kept me quiet. It was very effective."

Even with the intimidation though, McCarthy wasn't about to just accept her lot.
In fact, the Spy actor even confronted the person responsible after seeing how they’d made her colleagues feel.
"Then one day, I was like, 'It stops today!' I just kept saying to them, ‘It stops, it stops.' And I know now I’ll never keep quiet again," she admitted, recalling the confrontation.

While working on set may have been an absolutely awful experience, it did help the actor to create her own film company, On The Day Production, with she runs with her husband Ben Falcone.
“You know, we were so astounded and grateful at getting to build our own little worlds,” McCarthy said.
“We were like, 'We have to build the one we’ve always talked about, where everybody gets to have an opinion and everyone is really nice’."
She also revealed that her and her spouse perform ‘crazy checks’ before hiring employees and demand respect and kindness on set.

"It’s going to run a lot better with no screamers or crazy egos bumbling around. Why would we risk destroying that?" she pointedly said.
